A forum count monthly about 200.000 topic views and 10.000 posts (topic + reply)
There are around 4.000 members... (i use Ms SQL Server)

I'm switching from an hosting solution to a dedicated server...

On the new server can i install MSDE 2000 (that is free) instead of MS SQL Server (a lot expensive if i have to buy the license..) ?

Do you think is possibile with this traffic? o i have a performance problems?

Thank you in advance for your attention :)

I suspect it will be sluggish on MSDE, there is a built-in throttle at 5 connections in MSDE and performance degrades with higher usage.

You can always try it & see how things go :)

I agree with Doug, I think your probably going to have issues with MSDE on a forum that size, MSDE was never designed for production sites, and in fact you may well be in breech of license by even installing it and running your website using it.

mySQL isn't too hard to install, if your installing it on a windows machine just make sure you also get the ODBC drivers installed for it too.
