I downloaded the software. It looks pretty interesting. 500,000+ songs that can be downloaded. $9.95 a month to subscribe, or $.99 a song or about $10 for a whole album. One thing I wish though, is that they lower the price per single song. I am interested and am thinking of going with the monthly subscription. What do you all think?

Yes kazaa does have it's advantages, but it also has quite a few on the flipside. It is getting harder and harder to find songs out there that are of decent quality and that you can download quickly. I guess I wouldn't mind paying 10 bucks a month, just a compliment to my internet. I would probably download a lot. |

Yeah, I found out about this from a Yahoo! ad that I clicked on--it downloaded the software and tried to install it, but my firewall caught it. I really, really do NOT like this kind of thing, and actually sent a complaint to Yahoo! about it.
I just tried Rhapsody for a few months for $9.95/month, but after a while, it got really boring--I couldn't get the songs I really wanted, and the volume for many songs was different--it really needed a normalizer to make it worthwhile, IMHO.
A buck a song is quite expensive, I think. When it's one quarter that price, I'll be downloading tons. |

why would anyone in their right mind trust a product from Kazaa? and paying for music is not such a bad idea either. |

Just cause its free, having it installed on a computer that is only used for downloading music. I do not like there new version which makes your install other programs and you do not have an option. If Napster does come around and start getting a ton of songs on its service it might be worth while IF every song is top quality. Right now I have to download at least 2 different versions of songs to get one that is actually worth it sometimes more. |

Anyone here use CJ and tried to register with that program? I'm instantly being told that I've been disapproved enough though my site would be ideal to promote their product.
Before you ask, I've tried emailing them with no response. |

that's kind of what I was getting at. Kazaa is also infamous for spyware and the ability to catch a virus/trojan. Very, very bad. |

...I think I like iTunes better. Much cleaner, user friendly interface.

It's ONLY illegal... IF you're downloading copyrighted material (songs/movies/programs) you don't ALREADY have the right to, i.e. haven't previously purchased.

there are no locks in place to prevent people from downloading it regardless if they have it or not so the service will be abused... PERIOD.
besides, nothing replaces the CD Experience and it surely has gotten a lot better lately. |

If I already own the CD and want a MP3 of it, I would much rather rip a high quality version myself than scrounge Kazaa. I can't see any real legal reason for using Kazza. How many songs or movies are out there that aren't copyrighted?

For the record, you can not download an mp3 of a song you have previously owned if the mp3 was encoded from a cd and you previously had it on other media (cassette, lp, 8 track, etc.)
Individuals are not permitted to make copies of their copyrighted recordings and distribute them to others without permission from the copyright owner (aka the artist, not the purchaser). Whether or not you do it for free or for profit is irrelevant; the impact on the copyright owner is the same, they do not have the ability to sell their artistic work to others because they have received an unauthorized free copy. Conclusion, the mp3 you are downloading is 99.99% illegal because the copyright was violated when ripping it to mp3 and making it available for download in the first place.
