Hi,
I'm about to embark on a quest to develop some code/tables to record and display sailing race results in a series.
What I will be aiming for is:

Results for each event: (includes discarded races which would be striked out)
eg:
Event1 :R1 :R2 :R3 :R4 :R5 :R6 : Points
Boat20 : 1 : 2 : 3 : 1 : 1 : 3 : 8
Boat30 : 2 : 1 : 1 : 3 : 2 : 2 : 8
Boat40 : 3 : 3 : 2 : 2 : 3 : 1 : 11

These results would be posted manually (including discards) and feed into:
Series Results, same format and will contain discards too ...

However, before I start on this, does anyone know if this has already been done in some guise that I could tweak to fit my needs?

Thanks!
Fireball

I've done something for cars, but you could adapt it to boats. Although it would depend on your discard rule, the car series I wrote my stuff for has a "drop worst round" rule, you can see it at http://www.v8central.com/v8supercar/2003points.asp

Discard is same as yours, and as we can hold 6/7 races during a weekend they also get to discard 1 or 2 races from that weekend before working out the position for that open.
The final score for that weekend then goes to the series ...

Would be great if I could see your code, it would give me something to work on rather than going from scratch!

OK, I rustle up a description and diagram in the next few days. It's a good db design than any smart ASP code though.

Hi,
I'm going to start trying to do this myself, but I'm in a quandary I'd like to (eventually) write it so it will populate the DB from a Sailwave file, and that has 1 race per record, but I'll need to learn how to parse that file too, it is a basic txt file (with .blw extension) so can't be that hard! - where do I start though!?

The file is downloadable Here. Can anyone point me in the right direction please!

Thankyou!
