I would like to add sponsors to the different forums (sections) on my site like what is on this site: http://www.sitepointforums.com/
As you can see there is a sponsor image in the header of each forum, which includes a link to that sponsors website. Has anyone done this for Snitz? I searched but could not find such a MOD. |

I'm going to attempt this mod. I've been working on something similar to this so I believe I can do it without much hassle. What kind of ads would you be useing, images or tables like SitePoint? Anyway check back every so often if you still want this, it will probably be 4-5 days if something don't come up.

Not quite. A banner for each individual forum. For instance, if you had forums for cars, motorcycles and vans, you could have a car related banner in the car forum, a motorcycle related banner in the motorcycle forum and a... well, you get the drift! |

Yea what Mark said . If everything goes the way I want it to, you will be able to assign a sponser to each forum. |

cripto9t,
Thanks for the reply. For my site, I would like the ability to add the mini images and links associated to that image for my different forums. I don't see them changing much or at all but an admin panel would be a plus. Again, thanks for your reply. |

This mod is almost ready, I just need to tidy up the files and write a readme. Features will be: - Lets admin add a sponser to each forum when creating or editing a forum.
- Add image links, text link, files or all to forum or default pages
- Option to turn off or on in admin configure features
I have a few of questions. I'm don't completely understand the dbs files and I would like you guys to look at mine and see if I've done anything wrong. It works as it is now but I want to make sure.
Sponser_Mod
[ALTER]
FORUM
ADD#F_SPONSER_NAME#varchar (150)#NULL#
ADD#F_SPONSER_URL#varchar (250)#NULL#
ADD#F_SPONSER_IMG#varchar (250)#NULL#
ADD#F_SPONSER_FILE#varchar (250)#NULL#
ADD#F_SPONSER_WIDTH#varchar (5)#NULL#
ADD#F_SPONSER_HEIGHT#varchar (5)#NULL#
[END]
[INSERT]
CONFIG_NEW
(C_VARIABLE,C_VALUE)#('STRSHOWSPONSER','0')
(C_VARIABLE,C_VALUE)#('STRSPONSERFOLDER','sponsers/')
[END] Next I want to add another field to forum table that will turn another field on or off (2 values 0 or 1). How should I write that in the dbs file?
Last I am using Server.Execute to dynamically call the files. I don't know much about it except that it screws up everything if it can't find the file. But that should be no problem as long as the files are local. Anyone have a reason why I shouldn't use it?

This will be a great MOD. I like what they've done with the sponsored links on the Sitepoint forums.
Just to clarify, when you look at the Sitepoint forums, it appears that they have sponsors for each category, not each forum. I think this is a better option, because otherwise it could get very cluttered, very quickly. |

Ok I think I've got it. I just set this up on a fresh forum useing the readme. I found a few bugs that I've fixed. So if you can understand my instructions, there shouldn't be many problems. On the demo site I just threw these banners and logos wher I thought they might look good, if you want them in a different place you'll have to do that yourself. Forum Sponsor Mod (right click and save) <edit>Categoty Sponsor Mod (right click and save) Category Sponsor is for individual categorys, it does the same as Forum Sponsor only for Categories </edit> I've got a demo site here Demo Site
I'll move this to Mods with code if I can get a few people to test for me.
Screen Shot of configure panel
I will have a smaller version that only allows for one image that I will post by tommorrow, I just have to get the readme together.
Thanks Work Mule for the e-mail
<edit> 10/24/03 Both zips updated, added topic.asp and updated readme. </edit> |

Cripto9t,
A big thank you for your efforts. I will download the category version and install. Does the category version allow for an image hyperlink? |

Yes, an image or a html file like Site Points and a text link if want. The demo site has both installed but I'm only showing the "Forum Sponsor" on forum.asp, the "Cat Sponsor" looks the same. If you look on the default.asp there is a text link in the category header you can add if you want. Like I said above I just threw these in there, You can put them where you want. If you have trouble with the mod or understanding my instructions post it here, I usually drop by once or twice a day. |
