Can't provide too much help without a bit more info, but it sounds to me like you have a stray &_ running around somewhere. Can you post a text version of your pop_profile file?

I had the same problem and it seemed to just be a problem with addding the Avatar code to the file properly. Make sure you are editing the files correctly. I got the same error, went back to backup copies and reentered the code, then it all worked fine!
