ahhhh, then this whole thread now makes sense to me... I thought we were just discussing the obvious. I guess the statement about "assuming" really is true!

Do some versions of XP Pro not allow 'Locking'? I can lock my XP Pro at work with ctrl+alt+delete but if I do the same on my home laptop, I get the task manager instead with an extra toolbar option having 'shutdown', 'log off' and 'switch user', but not 'lock'.

Its to do with the way the login is setup (I think), in the User Accounts screen, there is an option to "Change the way users log on or off", when I unchecked the "Use the welcome screen" option I got the "Lock Computer" button, if I check the option it goes away

Off course there are probably loads of other settings that affect this, but changing that one does it for me

I have something like this, but I have assigned it to the F8 key so I only need to press the one key.

I actually have this command:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
as some do not have the files stored in C:\windows. All you need to do is create a shortcut and assign a key you are willing to use. I thought that the F8 key would be the one as not much uses it.
