Is it possible to install multiple copies of MSDE on the same computer? My credit card POS software self installed a copy of MSDE but does not share the root username/password so I can't create new databases.

MSDE2000 supports multiple instances, look for installation instructions that set the named instance.

I don't know if MSDE1.0 has the same features or not.

topic revived from the dead...

I have MSDE v7.00.623 installed and want to install another seperate instance of MSDE. I read of a command line switch for the setup file to do this but can never get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?

have a look at the readme file instructions, it shows how to do this, you can either use the command or edit the ini file, editting the ini file is easier

I finally got this to work! It would never work if I used the setup switch for choosing the install folder. I skipped that option and it worked fine.
