Is the Snitz feed working at the moment ?

I've added it to my News plugin in Trillian, but nothing is showing up. Any ideas ?

I think you have to add a component to your site to get newsfeeds to work, but I don't know what it is.

it is easy to tell, just go directly to the syndication document:

http://forum.snitz.com/forum/rssfeed.asp

and yes, apparently there is an error right now. Richard needs to filter the ampersand that is in one of the posts.

Thanks dayve, it just took a while to show up in Trillian (but yes, there is an error now)

MrPink, nothing to add, you just need to generate an XML file and then pick it up in a news (RSS) reader.

Richard,

I'm getting this error with the RSS Feed. It's because of an ampersand (&) in the title:

Clinton & his scandal

Whitespace is not allowed at this location. Error processing resource 'http://www.domain.com/forum/rssfeed.asp'. Line 1, Position 1043

How do I fix this? I thought I saw a fix somewhere.

Richard,

In addition to the question above which I'm still waiting for you to answer. I've got some code which aggregates rss feeds and displays them in HTML but all these different sites use a different character here and there and at any one time, 20 to 40 percent are corrupt because of that invalid character. For example, the Snitz feed goes down anytime someone uses an ampersand.

Should the error-catching be done on the aggregator's side or on the RSS feed side? How in the world do I catch all those errors?

the ampersand issue was answered here:

http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=46136#259257

I'll fix the file on this site when I get home in the morning, didn't realize that it didn't have the fix already.

Issues such as this should be dealt with in the RSS feed itself.

Do you know what characters don't work well with XML/RSS Feeds and HTML aggregators?

Cheers,

Thanks, Richard, for posting the rss feed!

I liked Richard's feed, but I wanted one that contained the message bodies too. So, I modified Richard's and you are welcome to it.

You can see an example on my RSS feed at:
http://www.lookoutsoft.com/Forums/rss.asp

And you can download the script at:
http://www.lookoutsoft.com/Forums/rss.asp.txt

Enjoy!

I tried slapping it onto my forums, but I get an internal server error when I try to access it. I'm still trying to figure it out, but if anyone has any suggestions, definately give me a hint or clue as to what to look for.

Hey, I love this Mod... especially that no other files need to be modified to use it! Given that, is it really a mod?! Anyway... I need something exactly like this to give me a feed of just a specific forum in my forum... that is, in the thing that holds topics. Is forum the correct name for that thing? again, anyway... I just want to be able to offer the rss info from all the topics in one forum, ie, /Forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=20, instead of the whole site-forum, ie, /forum/

Is this 1, possible and 2, how hard?

Thanks,

Jim Jones

First off -- someone was asking how to display the rss on their site -- I had the same question, and found the answer (through the power of Google) heere: http://www.juicystudio.com/rss.asp

Now that I have it running, I want to customize.
1. Can I edit the number of active topics it lists?

2. Can I add which forum each topic is coming from?
example: Topic Link in Forum Name

Thanks a bunch!

I wish to add another line to the XML with the original author and data/time of the original post. What changes would be required in the rssfeed.asp file to accomplish this?

Thanks...
cheers,
Nat
