Hi,

I'm upgrading from 3.3.03 to the newest Snitz forum. Which files do I need to upload? Please let me know the best/easiest way to do this. Of course, I have to keep all of my current messages and members.

Sincerely,
Jason Gastrich

Thanks. I'm not sure I can follow those instructions. What does this mean:

2. Edit your new config.asp, so that it will use the strDBTYpe correct value and strConnString points to your existing database.

Sincerely,
Jason

in the readme.html that is included in the ZIP of the latest version, it says how to modify config.asp so the forums will be able to establish a connection with the database. You can also check the lines for strDBType and strConnString in your current forums' config.asp to copy the settings.

Remember that none of the files of your current (old) forums can be used in the latest version.

Ok. So, all of the files will be updated. Will this allow me to keep all of my messages and members?

Yes. All messages and members are kept in your database file, which has an name ending with a .mdb extension. That file should be kept, even if you update all the others. By keeping it you maintain all your board data.

Ok. Thanks for the help.

I'm sorry for being naive on this whole thing. I just spend ample time in the phpbb forums and I've learned all about them. I was even able to set one up, install about 75 mods, adjust the database with myphpadmin, etc. Now, I'm having to learn something entirely new.

My Snitz forum is being hosted by someone who doesn't have all of the myphpadmin features. It's asp. So, I'm learning this from the beginning.

Where are my database files kept?

Is it ok to create a folder in my current forum folder for the new forum?

If you want to offer any "DO's" or "DON'Ts" as I prepare to upgrade, I'd be happy for the input.

Thanks,
Jason G

Ok, what database are you using now? Have a look at config.asp and let me know which line starting with strDBType does not begin with a single quote. There are only 3 lines with strDBType and they are all together at the beginning of config.asp.
