I've run into something that I don't think I can do and wondered if anyone has accomplished it:
I would like the code to automatically assign a moderator to the person who starts a topic (if the admin selects that category to have that moderation function). For example, if this category had topic moderation turned on, then I would automatically be assigned as moderator to this topic that I just created.
Any ideas? Downsides? |

Sorry, what has topic moderation do with a user being a moderator? Topic moderation means that the original topic or the replies or both need to be approved by a moderator/admin before they can be seen by the other users. It has nothing to do with promoting a user to moderator status so that he can moderate the topic. I also wonder what sense would that make. The user would get to approve all the replies made, edit them and such?! What would be the point of doing that?
Also with Snitz moderators moderate forums, not topics. You'd need to change the concept of a moderator as Snitz defines it. |

The power to approve all replies isn't the goal, but the power to edit and delete is an option. For a certain part of my forum it makes sense and the users have asked if they could have these privileges for one of the categories.
Looks like I'm correct then - Snitz cannot handle this in its current form. |

Ruirib is right, but you could of course modify the codes and, for example, say that when a user has posted the topic (s)he is currently viewing, (s)he gets to see the icons a real moderator would get to see too. Then you'd also have to add quite some codes to post.asp and post_info.asp so that when the topic's author edits a reply not made by him/herself, the changes do get saved.
If you got it working, you'd still really have to be able to trust your members if you give them the ability to edit eachother's posts though. I can see a good chance of fights when people get mad about their posts having been edited or deleted... |
