I decided to make this easy (very easy) MOD because I wanted the state name that your users are from to appear in the "short profile" next to all of your users posts. The instructions to do this follow:
Title: Add State to Profile in Posts

Author: Ryan

Description/background: I wanted to make the USA on the short profile next to a members posts more specific.
So I made this easy to do MOD. Enjoy!

Follow the step below to modify your USA option in country_list.asp

Find:
			"                           <option value=""USA"">USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
Change this to:
			"                           <option value=""AL, USA"">AL, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""AK, USA"">AK, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""AZ, USA"">AZ, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""AR, USA"">AR, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""CA, USA"">CA, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""CO, USA"">CO, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""CT, USA"">CT, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""DE, USA"">DE, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""FL, USA"">FL, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""GA, USA"">GA, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""HI, USA"">HI, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _

			"                           <option value=""IL, USA"">IL, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""IN, USA"">IN, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _
			"                           <option value=""IA, USA"">IA, USA</option>" & vbNewLine & _

Works great! Two thumbs up for ease of install .

I removed the State option because now that comes up under Country now. I notice a lot of users on my board do not use country because we are all in the US. Is there any way to just grab the State and throw that in the mini-profile?

if you are all from the US you can do that. Click here
Upload the file to replace inc_countrylist.asp. Make sure that you have the drop down box to select your state removed (so it doesnt have it twice)
DO NOT RENAME inc_countrylist.asp!!!
You could then if you like go to the other files that call the list in the profile "countries" and update it to be "states"
Let me know if this works!

Hey,

If anyone comes across some miniature (preferably animated) state flags to go along with this MOD, please let me know.

Thank you!

Cheers,

reducks87: Yeah, it works fine, thanks. Only problem I am having is finding the asp file(s) that show "Country" on the profile and member info pages. Do you know where I can change these values?

Thanks

Oh yeah Etymon, there is a site that has all of the animated state flags here:

http://www.animationfactory.com/free/flags_us_states/flags_us_states_page_aa.html

And they are free too . One for light and dark background, and one with a clear background also. Great site for animated clipart.

EDIT: Fat fingers

Has anyone integrated the flags into this MOD or another FLAG MOD to correspond with the country on the short profile? I would like the small flags (which I downloaded from SnitzBitz) to show up underneath the members country name. I have HEARD of this being done, but can't find any code for it anywhere????

You can download the flag mod at crashes site click here. I think it's for an earlier ver. of snitz but it shouldn't be to difficult to add to 3.4 .

Yes I was....what was he talking about? lol....

But I downloaded Crash's Flag Mod and attempted to put in on 3.4.03 but, the code is not optimized for it. Anyone have the flag mod on their 3.4.03 forums? I really want to get this MOD on there! :P

There's also this MOD for introducing a drop-down list of States into a member's profile:

http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=111

Install the above and to then show the State in the mini profile above country -

In topic.asp:

Line 98:

Change
quote:
", M.M_TITLE, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY" & _

to this:

quote:
", M.M_TITLE, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY, M.M_STATE" & _

Add this in after line 132:

quote:
Member_State = rsTopic("M_STATE")

so that it reads:

quote:
Member_Country = rsTopic("M_COUNTRY")
Member_State = rsTopic("M_STATE")
Topic_Date = rsTopic("T_DATE")

Line 310:

Change:

quote:
strSql = strSql & ", M.M_TITLE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY"

to this:

quote:
strSql = strSql & ", M.M_TITLE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY, M.M_STATE"

Line 522:

Add this in:

quote:
rM_STATE = 13

but remember to change the orders afterwards so that lines 513-538 read:

quote:
rM_NAME = 0
rM_RECEIVE_EMAIL = 1
rM_AIM = 2
rM_ICQ = 3
rM_MSN = 4
rM_YAHOO = 5
rM_PM = 6
rM_TITLE = 7
rMEMBER_ID = 8
rM_HOMEPAGE = 9
rM_LEVEL = 10
rM_POSTS = 11
rM_COUNTRY = 12
rM_STATE = 13
rREPLY_ID = 14
rFORUM_ID = 15
rR_AUTHOR = 16
rTOPIC_ID = 17
rR_MESSAGE = 18
rR_LAST_EDIT = 19
rR_LAST_EDITBY = 20
rR_SIG = 21
rR_STATUS = 22
rR_DATE = 23
if CanShowSignature = 1 then
rM_SIG = 24

After line 550 add:

quote:
Reply_MemberState = arrReplyData(rm_STATE, iForum)

so that it reads:

quote:
Reply_MemberCountry = arrReplyData(rM_COUNTRY, iForum)
Reply_MemberState = arrReplyData(rm_STATE, iForum)
Reply_ReplyID = arrReplyData(rREPLY_ID, iForum)

Find this around line 579:

quote:
if strShowRank = 2 or strShowRank = 3 then
Response.Write " " & getStar_Level(Reply_MemberLevel, Reply_MemberPosts) & "<br />" & vbNewLine
end if
Response.Write " </p>" & vbNewLine & _
" <p>" & vbNewLine

and add this immediately afterwards:

quote:
if mlev > 0 then
if strState = "1" and trim(Reply_MemberState) <> "" then
Response.Write " <font color=""" & strForumFontColor & """ face=""" & strDefaultFontFace & """ size=""" & strFooterFontSize & """><small>" & Reply_MemberState & "</small></font><br />" & vbNewLine
end if
end if

Find this around line 784:

quote:
if strShowRank = 2 or strShowRank = 3 then
Response.Write " " & getStar_Level(Member_Level, Member_Posts) & "<br />" & vbNewLine
end if
Response.Write " </p>" & vbNewLine & _
" <p>" & vbNewLine

and add this immediately afterwards:

quote:
if mlev > 0 then
if strState = "1" and trim(Member_State) <> "" then
Response.Write " <font color=""" & strForumFontColor & """ face=""" & strDefaultFontFace & """ size=""" & strFooterFontSize & """><small>" & Member_State & "</small></font><br />" & vbNewLine
end if
end if

And that will then add the member's State into the mini profile. It will only show to logged in members. Please remember to back up your file first though and all line counts relate to an unmodified file

Sorry to hijack your thread reducks87
