I believe I have finished a "lite" "not-so-lite-anymore" version of the UserGroup MOD for version 3.4.x.
Before I release the code, I'd like a few people to test out it's functionality on my test site. Report any problems or suggestions back here (as I won't be checking posts on the test site) and I'll get a beta package together within a week if all goes well.
MOD description Allows admins to create usergroups. Usergroup members can be forum members or other usergroups. Admins and moderators can then assign groups to the "allowed member list" of a private forum and members are restricted based on their group membership. Usergroups can be accessed from Admin Options. A private forum will show groups in the list of "allowed members". A user's group membership can be changed by the admin by editing the user's profile.
Updated Description (June 9) Stuff above and:- Admin can configure 4 options (at the moment) for usergroup control: UserGroup Information Visibility, Members' UserGroup Assignment Visibility, Allow Moderators to Assign UserGroups to Forums, and Allow Moderators to Assign Users to UserGroups.
- Allow, Read-Only, and Deny permissions per UserGroup for each forum.
- Admins and moderators (if configured) can edit UserGroup permissions from a Forum's properties page.
- Viewing of UserGroups based on configuration available from the navigation menu.
Test Site Details URL: http://www.nikkol.net/ugtest/ Admin username/password: Admin/ugtest Other users/passwords: test/test, badboy/badboy, goodboy/goodboy Restrict registration, email validation, and unique email are all turned OFF, so feel free to register new members for your own testing.
Also note that the forum list in the usergroup properties can be deceiving. For instance, Group B might be a member of Group A and Group A is allowed to access Forum A. Therefore, Group B can also access Forum A, but the properties of Group B does not show that. I'm glad to take suggestions on how to alleviate that little problem.
Please note that I am currently testing new code on this site. You may experience errors from time to time. Also, it is important to NOT edit the existing usergroup or forum properties, as I need them for testing. |

Well, I went to add a new group, and I got a page cannot be displayed page. I'm probably doing something wrong, or it just hates me.
Here's a pic of what I was trying to do:
Thanks for having this MOD out so quickly, Nikkol.

When you click Modify, that's what happens? What it is the error you get? I just tried it myself again and I didn't have any problems. |

Thanks for a Great MOD! I tested it all out, and it works fine for me. I like the ability to set the forum 'Allowed Members List' directly from the Usergroup Config. Groups within groups are nice as well. Etymon's problem doesn't occur for me. I'll be awaiting a beta version. Thanks!! |

Hi Nikkol,
I have some questions.
Is a member able to see (like in a list or something) what groups she is apart of, what forums her groups have access to, and what forums she as an individual member (regardless of her belonging to a group) has access to?
I'll post my other question in another reply once I figure how to word it.

no, users are essentially unaware of groups.
Ok, so if I want to see what usergroups a member is apart of, I go to their profile and it will list them on the bottom right under usergroups.
Now, if I want to edit, that member either out or into usergroups, I have to have two windows open ... one is their pop_profile.asp page and the other is admin_usergroups.asp page, right?
Will there be a way to edit using the pop_profile page?
