Hi there, I guessing my problem is related somehow to the events in this section.

The problem that I am having is that I can access the forums fine........IFI am part of the administrators group on the server. any other group doesn't allow me to access the forums. I get a

HTTP Error 401
401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource.

The forums are on a Windows NT machine running IIS. The security is set to windows NT challenge/response.

The weird thing is that the forum is actually in the same directory as the intranet we have and the intranet works fine!

Tried everything possible with permissions, trying different servers etc.

Getting stuck BIG TIME!I'm not using the latest version of the forums, maybe this is an option?

Hope someone can help!

It could be possible that the permissions of your components aren't set correctly. Are you using any ASP pages anywhere else on your intranet?

The only asp pages that are used are in the forums. Is there somewhere that I can change the security properties for these pages?

Thanks!

I see & can use the forums fine when I use the NT auth as Administrator or anyone that is in the Administrator group, but as soon as I log in as someone that isn't an administrator or in the administrator group.......can i get access.......... I don't think so!

I can set it to anonomus also and it still wont access it...I running out of Ideas and getting very very frustrated.

Hope someone can help!!!!

see if you can run a simple asp page outside the forum. if you can't, then something is up with the permissions on your components.

Get your host to check all your permissions - database, folders, everything.

alright Ben... do you remember if you did anything special on this server like run IIS Lockdown, or the security toolkit? You may want to start at www.microsoft.com and do a search in their knowledge base for the error you are getting.

Hi there, thanks for the replies,

I haven't run anything that I know of out of the ordinary. It was a fresh install of Win NT witht the 4.0 option pack. I have frontpage extensions running which are the newest ones I could find and thats it. I haven't used any security tools, and I don't know what this lockdown thing is. I have looked at Microsofts website using the error I get in the browser. But its not proving that great.

I shall keep looking though.

I feel like this >> at the moment with this error!

What are the permissions on your WinNT directory?

My Winnt folder has permissions set for

Administrators
Forum users
Server Operators
System

I have managed to get the forums working using a windows 2000 adv server with IIS 5.

Works first time with the settings exactly the same.

So that means something is wrong with the ASP side of IIS 4 on my NT 4.0 server, coz I have 2 websites working fine on it without asp pages.

Any Ideas into this problem?

not really sure. I can't really remember how to work with asp component on NT ... can you try reinstalling asp?
