I'm trying to figure out which version of Snitz to use at my site. I'll probably do some minor hacking on the .asp files to customize a bit, so I'd like to avoid version upgrades whenever possible so that I don't have to repeat the manual changes to the .asp files. When will version 4.0 of Snitz be labeled "the latest production version"? Also, is 4.0Beta3 considered stable enough to use at a heavy-traffic site, or would it be better to use V3.4.03? And what version are you guys running your forums with at http://forum.snitz.com/forum?

There isn't any release date for 4.0 yet, v4b03 has a bunch of 3.3 errors, but it can be used. But not the biggest forums.

I would recommend waiting a few months after 4.x has been released to run it in a production enviroment anyways. No need to jump the gun here.

v.4.0Beta was meant to be a way to test an internationalization strategy for Snitz. It started, AFAIK, after the release of version 3.3. and thus version v.4.0Beta3Patch05 is functionally equivalent to SNitz 3.3.05. After 3.3.05, Snitz released version 3.4 (currently 3.4.03). Since 4.0Beta3's advance towards internationalization was the concentration of all the Snitz language dependent strings in single file, easing the burden of translating to different files, version 4.0Beta, while functionally equivalent to SNitz 3.4.03 would take the support to localization and globalization much forward. The Snitz Dev Team member that was coordinating v.40Beta4 left a while ago and when he did 4.0Bet4 was in alpha state.

Also we all know there are thousands of boards running on Snitz v.4.0Beta3, so there is no point in insisting it was not meant for production forums. If it wasn't, many people (including me) actually used it and had no particular problems with it.

Actually, we can insist all we like that is not meant for a production environment, since it is not finished you use it at YOUR own risk, if it breaks your code, we do not offer support for beta's or accept any responsibility should you have a problem

Good point . I would say, however that this is a different kind of beta, and I'd say you know that quite better than I do .

I can live with that, no problem. So can several hundreds (thousands?) of users. Of course, while Beta3's significative change to 3.3.x was the isolation of lang strings, things are a bit more complex with Beta4. Even so, I'll gladly take the risk when time comes .

I think internal test version of a beta version can be called alpha of beta (if not gamma) .
