you definitely have something messed up there. it looks like you jumbled up the sub that makes the navigation at the top. you might want to try pasting in a fresh copy of that whole sub. |

Nikkol: I was thinking the same thing. I was just going to start over. Delete this one and past in my back up.
However, the code above, I checked the original, and it looks to be the same. But then at two am?, it all looks the same!
This is just bugging me after how I managed to figure out the poll mod. I guess it was easier using the comparison tool.
I'm going to scrap this file and upload the back up and start from there and see what I get. lol, surprised I haven't heard from my moderator/admin as to where the forum is! grin.
I'll be back to let you know how it went. hi ho hi ho its off to work I go! lol
<edit> So far so good, now am off to finish this up and see if it works! lol.
Thanks everyone soooooooo much for all the help. And I just want to thank those who took the time to write this code for people like me. And then are there to help as well. |

1ASPhost is the WORST possible host that you could have!!
I know have this error Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'
Expected statement
/fibrom/admin_home.asp, line 144
" <LI><span class=""spnMessageText""><a href=""admin_pmmaint.asp"">Private Message Maintenance</a></span></LI>" & vbNewLine & _
However, I can't seem to make the connection to save the changes that I think I have corrected!

Ok, things still aren' going great with this.
Now my poll mod doesn't work. It was working before hand.
Also the private messages aren't working yet! I am in the process of going over the files again, and again. I need a break right about now. But sure could use some help with this. However, I dont want anyone doing this for me. I want to do this on my own, but need guidance. Thanks. I'll be off now till tomorrow, but will check in then to see if there are any suggestions. |

Didn't you create a backup of the files you'd be editing, before adding the PM mod? You should always do that, otherwise you may find yourself in the current situation of having a non-working forum as a result of the changes due to mod insertion. |

ruirib: Oh yes! I did back things up! lol, I made sure of that because I don't know the programing of asp, though would love to. I love reading the code that is in the files to sort of get used to it so that when I pick up teaching this to myself again, I am familar with the things that they are talking about.
I guess that I like the problem solving of things. Ok, something went a bit crazy, now, where did I do something wrong? I would rather play with the file a bit to see what and where I made the mistake, to learn a bit mroe from it, then load the back up files in. does that make sense?
i did something that caused my poll mod to not work. Not sure what it is. The poll shows up in there, however I can't vote on it right now. Also, the line that registers votes doesn't show anything, the sort of graph thingie.
With the private messages mod, When I go into administrative area, the private message thing shows up above the admins options table in a darker blue area, that has a link to click on. You are still signed into the forum so if you want to look you are able to.
I know it would be easy to just upload the back up files, but would I really learn anything by doing that? lol, guess I am just stubborn sometimes. |

ruirib: Thanks anyhow, i appreciate the input that you have given so far.
I think that I did something with the database on this. However I can't figure out how to get into it to see what is going on, lol not that I know what I am doing.
I pulled the forum down to get into it, but, sadly it has been over 5 minutes of waiting for it to load into edit. I know it is going to time out again on me.
I did download it into access, but unfortunatly I haven't gotten far enough into the access book to know what I am doing. |

When I added the code for the pm mod, I had added the one, then realized that i had added the wrong one, there were two possible codes that you could enter in. duh mode added the wrong one. Plus this is the error that I keep getting, when I want to just look at the database to see how it is set up. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source Error:
The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:
1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:
<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>
or:
2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:
<configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"/> </system.web> </configuration>
Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.
Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Go figure, yesterday I was getting so many errors on my site left it and today the site is functional?
Can all these errors be caused by the host? And the slow connection?
I believe that I have the private emails working now, and I really didn't change anything.
I am checking out hosts to switch this to. Limited income so I have to really check them out to find the good ones.
Thanks for all the help.
I do have to see why my poll mod doesn't appear to be working. I'll check the threads involved in the mod to see if there is anything related to what is going on with mine.
I appreciate the time that everyone took to help me with this.
Beware of 1ASPhost. Not a good host. Even though it is a free site, I wouldn't recomend it to anyone that is starting 0ut with things. |
