We took the Snitz forum and with Richard's invaluable help added many of your great mods and now we're tying the db together to have multiple forums sharing member database, statistics, and private messages. We're getting errors that we cannot fix; we need your help. Once the site is 'bug free' we will post it for everyone to download.
We need your help getting the bugs out that we cannot do, when we get one thing to work another fails...Please try to register and post messages and explain bugs/fixes under this forum.
http://www.americaniron.net/forums/forum9/andhttp://www.americaniron.net/forums/forum10/ These two forums' memberbase, statistics, and private messages are tied together. If you want to download this to work on it, get it here: Zip file: 521,717 bytes with db http://www.americaniron.net/forum9.zip If you want the database for our version of this forum before our programmer started trying to share the databases, click here for the db only: 28kb http://www.americaniron.net/snitz_forum_2000_access97.zip We are working with MS Access and we can try to get it to work with SQL when we're finished.
Known Problems: 1-When registering, the new user seems to register, but it goes into the member db with an error. You cannot login with that user until you use Admin to make the user a moderator or administrator, then it works. 2-When sending PM, an error occurs, but the message sends. 3-When posting a new topic, an error occurs but the topic posts.
Sorry for the long message and thanks in advance for the help, if you can help with the db, download the zip file and post the fixes; if you can't then just go to the website try to register and post away and report errors. We'll make the zip file available as soon as it all works. |

to tie in the PM you will probably have to disable the e-mail notification. |

Richard, The topic e-mail notification will need to be disabled? This is connected to PM?
Also for everyone, Admin/Admin is still active so people can check out settings that may be causing problems. You can also register a new user and use admin/admin to make your user an admin.

the topic e-mail I'm not sure about. But PM should probably be just to rule it out as the problem. |

Thanks, that seemed to fix the PM problem. Still cannot register a new user, we get this error: Admin Line 336 Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.CreateObject Failed /forums/forum9/inc_mail.asp, line 155 Invalid class string Try to register and see what errors you get. Anyone else have any tips or suggestions?

that error means that the e-mail component that you chose from the e-mail configuration for the forum that the person is registering in, isn't installed on that server. You need to either choose an e-mail component that is installed on that server, or just disable e-mail altogether.

Thanks Richard. We've turned the email off for the whole site and made the member configuration so that the minimum input is required to register, and we get this error: "IronMan Line 336 ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd' Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted; the operation requested by the application requires a current record. /forums/forum10/inc_functions.asp, line 621"
IronMan is the name of one of our users but they are not registered, not sure where the name IronMan comes from in the error.
Any ideas on the logic of this error?

I found the part that's causing the problem. It's the getMemberID in the New Member Private Message MOD. |

Richard, Do not see the problem with getMemberID, is it what is affecting members not registering correctly?

Does anyone see a prob with the getMemberID as Richard stated? We've been unable to solve this problem. When you go to our forums (urls listed above) and register on forum 9, you get no error and it appears to register. when you go to forum 10 and register you get an error. However, if you register in either forum you will get an error when trying to log in with the person and if you go to the members screen it shows error. Will the pros please help, there are numerous people asking on how to do this, please help. Thanks.

hi, did you fix it? I'm very interested! Which release are you experimenting with? SR3 or 4?
