The leaving of Bozden from this site, the developer of the foreseen international version of Snitz2000, creates some specific problems. As a member of the internationalization workgroup I want to investigate the situation a bith, to see where we are. I do not want to discuss the reasons of Bozdens leaving here nor would I appreciate any discussion about it in this tread.

Reinsnitz/Mike makes a distinction between the program Snitz Forums 2000 and the domain forum.snitz.com/ where support and information is given and where one can download the official releases. That is an important thing to remember.

Bozden gave up is position as internationalization moderator. That does not per se imply that he doesn't want to continue working at a modification of the 3.4.03 version of the program. I simply don't know his current position on that.

Let me try to see three possible options.
1. He gives the scripts of the v4b04a02 version at the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000, as it is, and stops working on it.
2. He gives the scripts of the v4b04a02 version at the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000, as it is, and goes on with developing, in order to make it possible for the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000 to release an international version as was the intention before he left the domain.
3. He goes on with the development and publishes it elswhere as a modification of the Snitzprogram as described in the GNU version 2. That would give it the same position as most of the mods. In that case the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000 might develop their own official international version.

I know the quality of Bozdens work, and hope that option 2 can be reached. Both sides might find a compromise. When such an agreement would be reached the result could be that Bozden finishes his work together with the existing internationalization workgroup, and giving it to the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000. That would be the best result, but I see no signs yet that this is happening. The second best would be finishing the job, giving it to the copyrightowners of Snitz Forums 2000 and creating another place where Bozden and others with the same kind of arguments as he expressed would give their own support to this version.

I shall ask Bozden his perspective, and hope that you shall reflect on this also.

Hi Romée,

I'm not completely sure about this, but it is my understanding that at least another member of the Snitz Dev Team has the latest version of the alpha v.4.0 version (Davio). Also as I understand it, Bozden was in charge of the development as a member of the Dev team. I'm hoping that the Dev team will pick this task from where Bozden left it and proceeds to its release.

Anyway I think that your question is indeed relevant and I would like to see a formal Dev Team reply to it. I know how much effort Bozden put into this and I would absolutely hate to see that great effort lost. As a user of an international Snitz beta version I'm waiting for this release myself, so that I can take advantage of the enormous benefits of the 3.4.x features in my own forum... as soon as possible.<

Bozden had given a copy of the latest alpha version to the development team, in the DEV Team only forum.
As for what's going to happen next, only Mike can answer that. From his responses to recent comments about the future of v4.0, he has assured the development will continue.<

Hi Rui, Davio
As far as I know Bozden has left the domain, and terminated his membership of the domain dev team. I can not explore the consequeces of his former participation in the site dev team, since I know nothing of the kind of the arrangements made by them. So, my approach is to investigate the relation with the owners of the program, since they state their own position, and right they are. Thinking about their responsability, they have some space to bring things together, and their reaction is important.

I have the impression that Bozden can live with the domain dev team finishing the job. I am also not pessimistic about his cooperation in finding a better way out, and finish the version 4 himself. That is why I want to see what is possible along the lines in my first message.

I would sure like to see the dev work completed one way or the other and I think your question was very opportune Romée. If Bozden is willing to help, I could only hope that his willingness could be accepted. He surely is the person who know this code version better and it's been quite a while since 3.4 was first released. It's been a long wait for this internationalized code version :).<

Hi everyone,

V4b04 (or whatever it will be called) will be released, after final debugging and QC works done, according to Mike, if I understand DEV TEAM's plan (a la Mike's post on this matter). Questions will be whether it will be released as V4b04 as is, if that's the case, then, there still needs to be (1)a email component needs to be tested, which was just about to be done by Bozden, (2) and also (2) a language file need to be compiled for localization/translation. This is assuming that DEV TEAM will retain what Bozden did in codes for "internationalization".... If they decide to change a design itself, then, it will be a differently packaged V4b04... whatever it will be called, I suspect.

Either case, as Davio mentioned, Mike assured that dev efforts will continue, so have to wait to see how this will come out....but hope that they will decide to keep the core "internationalization" design implemented in V4b04 by Bozden will remain in tact...

Taku,

Good notes, and anyone else who knows specific things that are not yet tied up, please post that info here for us.

I guess some re-assurances are needed here, when I started Internationalization back in the day, and we were talking through how it should be implimented and what the exact design and structure would be, Bozden as a new member of the community came into the discussion with some good ideas, and some questionable ones . We all talked through all the details, went through several dozen implimentation options, and we all came together on the current design, layout and data structure.

What Bozden has been doing has been in full coordination with the rest of the DEV Team, you guys have Never been alone . The design of the laguage files and implimentation are good. I know Huw is going to be tweaking the code some to optimize server resource use, apparently some changes where inadvertantly made to the code that jumped the demand on server resource use to approximately 500% more than it was before.

One of the things Huw and Richard did (and it was a God send) was to optimize the code to be the sleak, mean machine it is in version 3.4.x today .

Again, if you know something that needs to be finished up. Post it here.<

Maybe another day, what more remains to say, but this:
Bozden, thanks for spending three years of hard work on an international version of the Snitz 2000 forumprogram. I respect you in many ways.
