It is the nature of most browsers to stop all gif animations when a link is clicked, don't know whay though. One way around it is to use the onclick event of the anchor tag. So, instead of:

<a href="URI">Text/Image</a>

You could use:

<a href="javascript" onclick="window.location='URI';">Text/Image</a>

another tip for you if you come upon a page with an annoying GIF animation (such as a banner) you can hit the stop button and it will stop the animation(s).

I know you want them to keep going, but while you were on the subject of them stopping (and the nature of the browsers) I thought I would bring it up.
