quote: Originally posted by FrutZle Just curious, but what's wrong with Dell that isn't wrong with HP, Compaq, Gateway, Fujitsu/Siemens, Toshiba and Sony to name just a few other computer companies? They all sell computers that are too expencive compared to when you get one built the way you want it (especially if you take the time to do it yourself), but besides that, why so negative about Dell?
I never said I liked any of those any more than Dell.
If you MUST get a premanfactured PC I recomend: Alienware or FalconNorthwest
I have a particular hatrid for Dell machines though because (being the resident geek in the dorm) people constantly come to me for tech support. And Dells seem to have the most problems and are a pain to work on. HPs have fewer problems but are even more a pain to work on. Toshibas don't have very many probems and are a joy to work on ect ect ect.

I would have to agree with you there Nathan. Most issue we had came from Dell. For an Internet Banking area, that was big down time dollars..

After happily using an HP for a couple of years I bought a Dell over a year ago. One of my pet peeves is the noise level (I know hardly anyone cares, or notices!) and the HP was alomost inaudible compared to the Dell. I can't stand it if my little room at home sounds like a factory when the machine is on. First the excuse was the increased processor speed, which needs more cooling. Then I listened to a newer HP, with an even faster CPU, and it still ran far quieter than the Dell.quote: a lot of their stuff is proprietary
...and that's another buggy thing. I am going back to good ol' HP. Engineering company background rather than pure merchandiser may be of value.

I'm not a gamer merely an enthusiast.
I picked those two because they use real (non-propriety) parts that I could pick up at the local enthusiast shop. |
