Many of the Snitzer's here are well qualified, highly experienced webmasters and developers - (except me of course !!)

Has anyone got any links to resources or forums / communities where I can chat / discuss with such people about their skills ?

i.e. there is a position that has arisen - and the skill-set is quite varied - including Cold Fusion, Flash, ASP, CGI, Java, Photoshop etc. - so I am looking for site where people who are generally experienced in all these types of things congregate.

any pointers / links welcome.

thanks

Here, of course!

Also, you can go to Sitepoint.com and check out their forums (mostly PHP stuff though) and if you need help with ASP, I highly recommend aspmessageboard.com.

What help do you need with right now?

apologies for not making it clear....

it is for a position in the Cayman Islands with a leading IT services company..... that is why I did not post the position details here - because it is probably not allowed to do that. But I need to find a site where I can chat with IT people openly about it.

thanks anyway Astralis - I added your links to my list of resources for my needs anyway.

regards

The following position was listed on my site by the leading IT Services company on Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. I will paste here exactly what they have posted on our Job Match System. I just thought that - in addition to doing my usual head-hunting - possibly some of the Snitzers here were qualified and in a position to relocate to the Caribbean - or even - may have colleagues who are in that position. I have checked with the admin here before posting this.

quote:

Position : Webmaster / Developer
Location : George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

The successful candidate will have minimum of 4 years professional experience in the creation and maintenance of commercial web sites, excellent customer facing and organizational skills.

This full time position requires a high level of proficiency in HTML, Java, CGI, ASP, and all Internet protocols. Good familiarity with Cold Fusion and AbleCommerce application platforms will be an asset, as would MCP qualification and familiarity with Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Strong data store design, e-commerce services and implementation on MSSQL Secure Servers will also be a requirement.

A robust Internet skill set, including SMTP, POP, DNS, FTP, WWW and SSL services. Complete knowledge of major web publishing software and development utilities including FLASH and ADOBE PHOTOSHOP on Windows NT platforms is required for this position.

Required Skills :

Coldfusion, IIS, HTML, Java, CGI, ASP, SQL

Nice to have Skills :

VB, J2EE, AbleCommerce, Adobe PhotoShop, DreamWeaver, Flash

Required certifications :

MCP (NT4 & W2K)

Benefits :

Competitve Salary, Pension, Medical, Cell Phone and Fuel Allowance.

If anyone has the requirements above - or has close to what they want - or knows anyone else who would be suitable for this position - please contact me.

Thanks

Got the skills except ColdFusion and CGI. Fuel expenses would probably be the salary though!

Oops, I'm not an MCP either, but what does that really mean anyway.

What I meant was, is it worth its 'weight' in the industry?

If I had 12 months experience and an MCP would I stand a considerably better chance of employment than having say, 3 years of commercial experience?

D3mon,

do you mean fuel is expensive or the salary would be low ?

also, if people have the majority of skills listed - but just lack certification - still contact me - since I already know the employer has stated experience is much more important.

Thanks for the input already guys.

Return flights to the Carribean are about £500 from here, then there's the 20 hours travelling time each day...

Sorry I was only kidding, didn't mean to imply a poor salary.

I would say more experience is better too - having spoken with the employer on this point

- but I guess when you are say, for example, listing everything you want in a new car or house - you put everything down....
