Is there any way I can force members to join the newsletter? Automatically in the registering process or something like that?

ugh, forcing??? such a fascist term... you should never force anyone to do anything, especially email related. |

Forcing people to subscribe is a good way to lose visitors.
Paradoxically, though, a pop-up newsletter subscription window is a proven way to gain subscribers if you tell them exactly what they'll receive if they subscribe. Those who don't want to subscribe can turn it off. You can set a cookie which will make the window pop-up once a month, for example, per visitor so it doesn't bug anyone.
This way you can gain regular visitors with email newsletters and more subscribers - a win-win situation. |

Heh.. I don't really want to do this either, but now in the starting up period I want to be able to reach all members via e-mail.. If they want, they can unsubscribe from the newsletter, but I want everyone to join directly via the registration.. And that's the way it is now.. I have added this info to the policy.asp... The group of people my forum is for ain't that used to computers and internet I suppose.. most of them anyways.. So if I don't do it this way, they will never subscribe.. Better to do this way and show them how to unsubscribe..
Astralis: what do you mean with pop-up newsletter? The newsletter comes via a pop-up window instead of via e-mail or what? Is there a mod for this? =) |

I haven't tried the new newsletter mod so it may have a pop-up window but I'm talking about a pop-up window appearing on the site when a visitor first visits. The pop-up window will ask the visitor to subscribe to your newsletter and list the benefits. It's tried and proven to work successfully and with cookies set properly, it doesn't annoy people who visit your site.
BTW, if your site is for general visitors I would seriously resist the temptation to require people to subscribe. It will only work against you. |

Ok, I liked the idea of having a newsletter in a pop-up window =/
As I said, it's only for a short period I hope.. and the users can unsubscribe if they want to... ;) |
