I don't know if everyone has this problem, but it has hit my forums recently (mainly because we're in the Silly Season of motor racing and rumours are flying thick & fast)....
The problem is related to a similar one a month or two ago - members deleting their post/s and destroying the whole flow of a thread. So, I removed the delete privilege. Now (as rumours are being confirmed), members are going back MONTHS to their old posts and editting them - same result -> a thread that doesn't make a great deal of sense. Obviously these people don't want on record that they leaked news or were wrong. How can I fix this ? two solutions I can think of are :
- archive the posts ..... almost impossible because I still want the threads available for replies.
- add a time-delay ...... this would allow a member to edit their post within X (24?) hours of initial post. This means that they can fix typo's, content, etc... but they can't go WAY back and change everything. Is 24 hrs too long ?, maybe it should be 'within the current session'
Sounds like a good idea, I think GauravBhabu posted something along those lines here. I would say 'within the current session' btw, you would spot a typo straight away...
