If have been reading through some topics and found about 3 portals based on the Snitz Forum code: Huws, Crash and Serverhacker
Is there anyone who can tell me which one is the most stable for a live environment with an MS-Access database and serving approximately a 1000 users
I am also intrested in the download link for Huws modifications (to start from scratch/clean install) The other two I could find.
Thanks for your feedback! |

All the pieces are here for you to make your own portal. Only you get to decide which ones and where they go. One good thing about adding them yourself is that you end up with only the code you need and not code for everything anyone might need with will speed up your site. You also get to know your code intimately during to portal assembly and is an intimate relationship with code ever a bad thing??
It's a lot more work and something you may not care to explore but it is something to think about.

i believe that you should ask yourself what it is that you want to have, features i mean. all three portals offer loads of them, but it is up to you to figure out what is most valuable to you.
then go to that site and simply ask questions, just as long until you are satisfied. Huwr, Serverhacker and me are more than willing to help you set up your site. |

The portal code will be used for a belgian dog fan site . We are currently using a Yahoo group for this but would like to move away from it and run our own website.
The features I am looking for are: - exchange messages between all registered users (forum) - exchange private messages between registered users - possibility for users to view/add images to a gallery - possibility for users to upload/download files - possibility for users to view/add links - calendar function (birthdays/events/...) - view members information (like Yahoo Messenger, ICQ #, email, ...) - guestbook function that can be signed by everyone - polls for registered users - possibility for news, annoucements, articles to be viewed - possibility for registered users to sign up for a newsletter - the possibility to buy/sell (is this what you call "classifieds" ) - site statistics like registered users/forum posts/page views/...
And a nice userbase with users that can help me out during setup. Easily maintained and adjusted to suite my color needs.
I know it is a lot. Therfor I would like to use a "ready made" package instead of altering Snitz Forum and adding all MODs I need myself.
Thanks for responding. |
