Should be able to have both active, I have a machine here right now with USB and PS2 Keyboards attached.

agreed, I do it at work all the time. I already ordered a PS2 to USB adapter from ebay. I gave up!

dayve, if you can be bothered, tell me if you done this:

a. you loaded bios default setup after reinstall

b. you checked device manager (all devices) again and found no problems with any devices.

I was afraid you would answer that. Ive had crazy things happen like that and usually because of soundcard/videocard conflicts but this is nuts...I agree with your approach, Just buy the adapter and let it go. put it down on one more of lifes unsolved mysteries..
