What would it take to clone the files used for registration? I am trying to set up a second sign-up system for club membership, as opposed to forum membership only.
Currently I use a totally separate sign-up form for the club, but sometimes I get applications with invalid emails. Which is why I would like to do it the way the forum handles it, with the instant return mail and email verification. |

I think I am doing what you want to do. I run a camping club forum and I tied the club membership in with the forum. So when you register you can also register for the club. However you do not have to register for the club to register for the forum but you must register to the forum to register to the club (hope that makes sense). If you registered to the forum but did not join the club you can always go to your profile page to sign up for the club.
This allows the forum to verify the email first. Then once the email has been verified it will send an email to the club coordinator to accept or reject the application to the club.
I modified the files manually so I never created a mod for this. I thought this was to customized to put in a mod.
You can see the forum here: http://www.glpuc.org/forum.
If you are interested I could document what I did?

By all means, Mike - this makes perfect sense to me, and I would very much appreciate your documentation! |

You could also create a database field, have a link for joining the club be a copy of policy.asp, then when people join from this page, pass a hidden form field that inserts a 1. Make the default value a "2" for non club. Then you just add that field to your queries.

This sounds like the best solution yet...
I could actually have the whole thing independent from the forum registration, with my Joining Information in place of policy.asp, and linked to my Membership Application. The one thing I still would need to add is the email verification before the user gets listed.
Right now the sign-up form gets mailed to me, and I have to put the data into a list manually. I could then have this go into the database automatically, and have it send a welcome page to the new applicant, right? Would save me a lot of work! |
