When i understand everything right a categorie is a sub of a forum. However i can't find the way to create a forum. (i was logged in as admin)
I would like something like this :
forum 1
- sub categorie 1
- sub categorie 2
- sub categorie 3
forum 2
- sub categorie 1
- sub categorie 2
- sub categorie 3

I assume that those nice collapse (-) and extract (+) signs appear automatically.

As i am a newbie I would prefer your help very much

Excuses for my awfull knowledge of the english language

a forum is a sub of category, so it would be

Category 1
- Forum 1
- forum 2
Category 2
- forum 1

etc

thanks for your answer, but i made a lot of categories (I suppose) and I only see one. And I can't make a forum at all. Is there somewhere a good explanation for this newbie to get these things right. I use the latest version. Thanks in advance

There is a drop-down box at the top-left. Make sure you have select there, All Categories you have access to. If this does not work, maybe post a link to your forum to see if we can help. Posting the access data for a test account would be handy too.

I now see a lot of discussion groups, in the next colummn somentimes 0 sometimes 1 categories, and absolutely no forum, and no topics (I even can't add new topics anymore).

As I am working this out on my own computer i can't give you a link.
How do I insert my database here

You probably made Discussion Groups rather than Categories. To make categories you need to click the new category icon when you are on default.asp

To make forums under each category, click the new forum icon on the category header (category header row has the + and - signs)

I probably have things messed up. O don't have a new a new category icon. I will install eveything new and try to sort things out. Learning through failure seems the best way to learn.

You can always do a screen shot of your default.asp page so we can see it and see what you're talking about.

The only change so far is that I gave your only forum a title. Somehow, you must have blanked it out. I see the new icons just fine. When you are on default.asp, don't you see all of the icons in the far right column of the table? Those allow you to make changes to categories, forums, and topics. Hover your mouse over each one to see what it does.

This is the first time I see these icons. Is it possible that I did not see any because the forum had no title ??. Now I am gone find out how you gave a title to that forum. Maybe you can give me a hint :)

Thank you anyway for your help

In my pc version nor on my net version i did not see any icons on the right at first. After you gave the forum a title the icons where there on my net version (I assume you did see the icons immediately) but still not on my PC version, so no icons no change possible. I then installed the complete forum on my pc again, and put back a backup of the config.asp. And then there were the icons too. Allthough I still don't understand what went wrong, I am glad to be able to continue on my exploration of the possibilities of this forum.
