I am currently setting up a forum that is going to be very dynamic as it gets started. Initially just a few forums/categories, but (hopefully) it will grow RAPIDLY.

What I need is the ability to reorganize existing posts. Move posts from on thread to another, combine threads, split threads, all that stuff.

I could of course take the database offline, and make the modifications directly (I am using Access for the DB, but I dont think this makes a big difference if any).

The other possiblity is that there is some function or mod that I have missed.

Looking forward to hearing from the masters....

Of the reorganizing functions you require, only one is available: moving whole topics to a different forum. All other things are not possible from the forum interface. AFAIK there are no mods to do that, but then I cannot be absolutely definitive. At least I cannot remember anything like ít.

Of course it's easy to move entire topics from on forum to another, but moving individual posts isn't possible, at least without some tweaking of the code or other method.

There have been several talks of doing something like this, but no such functionality currently exists in the base code, nor is there a MOD that I'm aware of.

Sounds like a good develop effort fo me then

Is there a quick way (e.g. existing scripts) that will allow me to "down" the forum so I can gain EXCLUSIVE access to the database?

I would need to make sure this closed all access (including currently logged in users).

TIA.

Yes there is a script named, precisely, down.asp. You need to log in as admin to access it.
