Following on from several posts lately, I'd like to offer a concise guide on how you can get good help fast, without bouncing replies around forever. These tips have been published somewhere, but maybe this could be a sticky in this forum
The Guide :
Include these things (or as many as possible) in your first post ...
1. A descriptive subject line, note the MOD you're implementing as well
2. Include the exact error
3. Include the code for that line, and the 10-20 lines before that (so if your error occurs on line 333, include 313-333)
4. Create a text version of the complete file on your site, and provide the link (DO NOT put the entire file in the message.
5. Provide a link to your forums
6. Keep the error online (if you can)
7. If your forums are restricted to members only, consider creating a membership so we can get in to see the error.
optional ....
1. What other MODs you have installed
2. Where you got lost in the implementation of the current MOD
3. any environmental changes, or recent changes that may have upset something.
There's probably a stack of other things that others can add, I'll update this list. |
