After four years, my club's site seems to have outgrown the limitations of FrontPage. Lot's of reasons why I make this statement:
1. It's well over 1,000 static HTML pages created in FrontPage... 2. It has over 5,000 graphics files... 3. Almost every time I publish through FP from my local machine, the hash file for the search index gets corrupted and I have to "recalculate hyperlinks" online to get the Search to work... I've switched to a Google search as an interim. 4. The built-in navigation features are getting too cumbersome. In some cases my menu structure is going 4 levels deep -- and at least 5 in one spot.
Bottom line is that I'm considering some type of content management system (CMS) written in ASP (I can hack ASP a little -- any other code is over my head). I'm running HuwR's portal code for the interactive portion of the site (clubhouse) but it's support for "articles" isn't strong enough to handle the volume of content that I have, nor is any of the other mods that I've been keeping an eye on. I need something that's template driven with a variety of templates, and automatic tree-type navigation... and that I can integrate with Snitz.
Does anyone have any recommendations based on first-hand experience? It'll be a huge effort to convert, but I feel like I've only been postponing the inevitable....
I've looked at ASPIN.com and HotScripts, read the reviews, demoed several (SiteWorkz, Active-publisher, etc.) -- but want to make a final decision soon. Thought some other Snitz user may have had to address this also...
TIA, Kent
