Set up a rule in Outlook Express to auto-respond to all unknown EMail addresses with that link embedded in an html-encoded reply. LOL |

the unfortunate problem with spam is that the reply address is normally non existant, so all you are doing is increasing your mail load, just ignore them. |

It's not the spammers I'd send this to. It's my father-in-law, my co-worker, my brother-in-law, an acquaintance at church, the friend who just got my e-mail address, and everyone else who forwards me stupid stuff. |

here's my top tip -
Get a domain (you can get a .co.uk for under a tenner) then for every site that forces you to register etc, give your email address as <sitename>@<yourdomain> eg I used snitz@<mydomain>.co.uk to register here, passport.com@<mydomain>.co.uk for passport etc. Have all your emails come through to the same account, then when you get spam, dig around in the email headers for the original to: address.
This means you now have the name of the company who sold its mailing list (assuming they're not just trying webmaster@ etc), and assuming you ticked that little 'never email me ever ever ever' box, you've got something to chat with them and the data protection registrar about, should you so choose. Or send all emails to <offendingsite>@<yourdomain>.co.uk to your deleted items folder automagically.

I also work this way, I have a personal address which never gets used for any sign ups, and I use various others for different kinds of things, when the junk starts coming in, i just assign them as NULL accounts and start using a different one. |

I've set up some fake bounce back messages before. I can never really tell if they work or not, but you never know...
That alias thing may not be a bad idea... |

I've been using CloudMark's spamnet (Outlook plugin) for a few months now and I can honestly say its fantastic ! its catches at least 98% of the spam coming into me and chucks it into its own folder, much better than straight outlook rules. If you can live with the fact that it physically send your email headers to its own server to help identify spam then I'd give it a shot. http://www.cloudmark.com/products/spamnet/ |

You might be able to tell something if the e-mails start coming short afterwards, but it's still not a sure thing. Spammers sometimes use a generic username list and will send it to every username on each domain they mail out too. I've noticed this on a domain of mine before, where a catch all account caught hundreds on spams that used this method. |

I have to agree with Gremlin. Cloudmark has a great freeware program that kills about 98% of SPAM comming in.
