If you delete a message from your outbox, it deletes the message from the recipients inbox? This is not good ....

Sorry other way around! If you delete a message from your inbox, it deletes the message from the senders out outbox!
Anyway this is still not good
I just tried this with your latest version HuwR and it does it to!
Cheers Till

Till, it's got to be one way or the other, or else the message will never get deleted. |

Hmm Why when a user deletes a message in his Inbox, should it delete the message in the senders outbox! I mean If I delete a message from my inbox in my mail program, it does not automagically delete the originating message from the senders sent items folder!
This is not right, it should not be this way. I'm not tryin to be a hard arse, but this could be very confusing for some people. One minute you have sent a message and its in you Outbox and the next minute it has vanished from existance, without any participation from yourself...
Please explain to me how you see the logic differently?
I know that someone has made this mod out of the goodness of their heart, and that I don't have to use it, but if these mods are going to be released onto the unsuspecting public, they should at least work according to the normal scheme of things. Otherwise we might as well just rename them from MODS to Netscape 4x hehehe!

Since it is not a mail program, should it behave like one?
I think I agree with Richard on this one, if the message disappears from you out box, it is a good indication they have read it.

Till,
This is how the Private Messages Mod works:
You send a Private Message to me. The Message is inserted into the database. If you have either the 2 page view or the full page view then a 1 is put in the FORUM_PM.M_OUTBOX field of that message in the database. The message is only put in the database once. When you goto pm_view.asp a database call is done to get all of the Private Messages that have been sent to you, and if you have the outbox enabled, it looks for all message that were written by you that have a 1 in the FORUM_PM.M_OUTBOX field.
Ok, now when you REMOVE (notice the different wording on the buttons) messages from your outbox, all that is really happening is the 1 is changed to a 0 for that message, it's still in the database.
But, when the person you wrote the Private Message to DELETEs (again notice the wording on the button) the message, it is removed from the database, so it can't still be in your outbox.
Now, with an e-mail program, when you send a message a COPY of it is saved to your Sent Items Folder. It's a totally different thing. |

Richard nailed it!
It was originally designed this way to cut down on the potential size of the database. In order to have the messages stored in the outbox would require either a seperate table or entering duplicate messages in the same table.
It is a bit deceiving if you expect it to work as an e-mail app. I look at it more as an instant messaging app like ICQ or AIM. You can send messages and know when people get them and read them, but if you want to save them for later, you have to save them to your computer.
Maybe a third option of "save to personal archive" would be a good idea. Any Thoughts?

I like the fact that it preserves db space. Thanks it makes a lot of sense and works like a charm.
Has anyone got alternative icons for the PM mod?
