I still fail to see how this is your problem, don't forget that this site runs on sql, it has never held excessive amounts of open sql or session connections, the pooling in sqloledb is very good, and even if you close your connections, they soon get swallowed back up by sql.

my first course of action would be to move hosts, you are going to get nothing but trouble even if you do upgrade to 3.4, since they obviously do not sound like they know what they are doing.

Thank you all for the advice. Maybe they put too many users on one server for the cheap promotional plan. and then it's their stragegy to force you to upgrade.

I'll have to leave them as the connection to them is slow somewhere in the middle now.

Well, here's their latest reply

quote:

Both sessions, if left open, can use up more server resources then
needed.

Essentially, for your domain, set those sessions to close much quicker
than the server default. The server default is set to a longer period of time simply
because certain customer run a ASP script for longer than a minute or two (exporting
information to a database, etc.).

? so why should other customers be allowed to run code longer than you ?

if they had memory issues, it would be more prudent for them to set a low limit and instruct you to increase it if needed, by the way, the default is 10 mins, not 1 or 2 as they intimate in their reply.

to be honest, from their incompetance and half hearted attempts to explain a prolem that they have no idea about, you really should look at finding a host who knows what they are doing.

Thanks HuwR, I'm looking for a new host.

Too bad I can't use one located in European for geographical reasons. I prefer on in the US than a local host here to avoid government interference as they put unreasonable barrier on internet, even if your site is just an commercial one not dealing any sensitive issues.

I chose the current host before as they were relatively cheap with lot of features and fast, now since they are not fast anymore, though this is not their problem, and the recent conversation with them, I will choose another host definately.

I wonder who's there replying to my message, maybe it's high school boys, junior likely, who doesn't know the differenc between "then" and "than", he used then in both of his two replies!

Here in the country with the largest population government sensor intneret content, require special lisence and registration to present on internet, put barriers by requiring the registered capital of your company, requires 60 days detail log of user activities, require special lisence for forums/chatroom/guestbooks or for whatever a mean user can post info, require 24h monitor if you get such a lisence, require pre report and approval of all categories of colunms/forums you may have under such a lisence and need approval if change or add a new one, require a monitor, who should be photoed and registered in the public security bureau for each forum/chatroom/guestbook etc. require the monitor do the sensorship and they do regularly come check. rumor says some even post sensitive info and see if anyone's doing the sensorship, if not, you are in trouble. block sites outside, require lisence to post news, esp news from abroad, require report and approval on every ad you put on your site.
if you don't have lisence required, local host shall not host your site, btw, without a lisence you cannot be a host or domain registrar operating in this country.

furthermore, if you obey all the rules you are in big trouble, make no profit and die soon, if you don't obey the rules who knows when someone will call you and invite you to have some tea in their office.

even if you host your site abroad they can block you, for no reason, most free host are blocked here, they even try to block google a while ago.

the mystery is there are rules, unacceptable rules and there are lot of people just ignore it and making no trouble, though you never know what will happen to you as rules are executed sometime as well.

things are getting better here but as internet is considered a media, strict control still I'd say.

it's the country with the largest population.

Don't name the country here, or the cop will find it and snitz will be blocked.
