Looks like pretty much the same error. To make matters worse, as I did this after just waking up [bad decision!], I inadvertantly attempted to archive all posts older than 1 month [rather than 4 months, as I had been], so now most of this forum is out of whack.

Updated Admin_Forums Text File to reflect its present code.

What's next?

Rich,

Did you get an error message?
How big is your database? If you want you can email it to me later today (I'll be away for most of the day) or email me a link to download it and I'll use SQL Server DTS to unarchive your topics and replies. Let me know if you want to do this.

Anyway, just a word of advice: before you do something like this in the future, it's always wise to backup first. Yeah, I know, telling you this now can only irritate you a bit more, but even so I think I should do it .

Hey ruirib!

Thanks for the offer! Will take you up on it if Davio doesn't know what to do next. Muchos gracious!

The only error I received was what I posted up above this morning. Pretty much the same one I've been getting. BTW, my database is about 10mb. It's Access, though. That OK? I usually do back up ... several times a week, as a matter of fact, but I had no archiving problems before this - I didn't give it a thought! Oh well, live & learn!

Richfed, you didn't remove or comment out lines 585 and 584:
Response.Write strSql
Response.End
my_conn.execute(strsql),,adCmdText + adExecuteNoRecords
So the sql statement didn't get executed.

Oh, jeez!

Yep, that did it ... almost. You're a genius, Davio!

The archive process went smoothly, no errors. The topics that I had been previously trying to archive finally went & are rejoined with their lost replies. However, even though those archived threads are now, in fact, intact, they read "0" replies ... all but the last two [on page 2] which for some reason archived properly the first time ... way back when. Plus, the last post info arrows [mod] indicate a "last edited topic". So the forum itself is now back to normal, all the archived posts are correct, both topics and replies, yet something is still out of kilter.

Here's what I mean: http://www.mohicanpress.com/messageboard/forum.asp?ARCHIVE=true&FORUM_ID=15

I did Update Forum Counts and ran ruirib's "Jump to Last Post" fix mod ... didn't help.

So, questions:

  • How can I fix this?
  • Any idea on why this might have happened at all?
  • Ruirib - You still "want" my database for this?

Thanks, Davio, ruirib, and everyone who lent a hand here trying to fix this!

Well one cannot be away for a little few hours that when we're back our help is no longer needed .

Rich I needed your database to get some of your mistakenly archived topics back to the "live" forum. If you're ok with your current status, I don't need it any longer. If you want to get some topics and associated replies back from the archived tables my offer stands. Let me know.

Ah, I'm glad things are working now, at last .

Much appreciated, ruirib! At this point, I'll just let the archive situation stay as it lays. Doesn't seem worth the trouble to transfer the database back & forth anymore. I can live with a few topics archived before their time!

Just would like to have the correct number of replies show up in those archives, rather than a big fat "0"! Anyone know how? Maybe, ruirib, you should take another little day trip? :)

Hmmm... I may try a go later at it later on... I will check update counts to see if its updating archived forum counts. If not I'll write a query and / or script to do it.

Rich, that is so very weird. The update counts script does update the archived topics counts, just checked it. I can't understand why the count isn't being updated, unless the replies are not associated with the correct topics in the archive, which, again, would be very weird.

Weird, indeed! I make no pretenses to having very much understanding of the "inner workings" of these forums, but even to me, this seems strange.

I just ran the Update Forum Counts feature again, just to be certain, but nothing happened in the way of updating those archived threads from zero replies to their proper number. Once again, you can see for yourself at: http://www.mohicanpress.com/messageboard/forum.asp?ARCHIVE=true&FORUM_ID=15 ????

I'm kind of afraid to run another archiving of any forum until this can be resolved ... if you would like to look at my database, ruirib, I'll send you the password to access it remotely. Or, if anyone else has any suggestion as to what might fix this, I'm game ...

Yeah, I guess I can try to do that. Email me the data, including the URL.

LoL, do we need to get a priest to pray for Ruirib before he undertakes this task?

Well, I downloaded that program a few months ago, at your recommendation, ruirib. The least I could do, I figured, was allow you to use it!!

No, really, it must have been Davio's Priest!

No, no, really, I can't thank you enough!!!!

Any theories on why this occurred, what I can do to prevent another "episode", and, is it even likely to reoccur at all?

You guys are good ... very good!
