I already went to the code and try to figure it out, but it is not that simple.
Does anyone done this before or knows how to do it?
Thanks! |

Why would you restrict the admins from viewing private forums? That defeats the whole purpose of being an admin. |

I believe the person wants something similar to other need to know things... if the forum is speaking about topics that are of a need to know nature and the admin does not need to know then they do not need to view...
Like folders on a network that stores sensitive information... the admin may setup the folder and only give access rights to the users... say finance... but takes himself off the access list... so he can't say... change his own salary level... or view other people's salary?
Only example I could come up with on short notice... by limiting his own rights the admin can distance himself from liability... though of course he could probably still delete the whole folder if need be...
maybe I'm misunderstanding though... |

I will tell why I want this.
My Forum is about Professional Paintball (paintball.com.pt-> in portuguese ), and I want to give Private Foruns to Teams. But they don't feel confortable if the Administrators can have access to what they are saying. I want to give them a sense of security about the info that they post in those foruns. The Admin can only have access to the foruns if he is invited (by password or he is part of the access list).
I hope I made this matter clear... don't you think that this option is a valid one?
Regards,
Diogo Luis

Restricting the admin breaks the fundamental reason for having an admin.
Bottom line and best answer would be to not have admin's you can't trust (2 or 3 tops for small forums). People should be made moderators of specific forums... not admins. |

But I'm the SuperAdmin and I have a team too, see the problem? They can't trust me! |

Well I suppose taking your word for it won't be enough? I would admit that you also administer the web site, so what would stop you from getting to the DB and access the topics contents that way? It's really a matter of trust, but I really don't know how you can administer a forum without being able to reach everywhere.
I know you won't like it , but I would suggest that you create two accounts for yourself: an admin account, to be used only when strictly needed, and a moderator account, which you can use to access all the relevant forums as a moderator, but not the other teams forums. Then use this one for your everyday tasks.
Of course you can also find an impartial third part to take over your role as admin. Sorry if this is not what you were looking for, Diogo .

Another, more drastic, approach you might consider - create separate, independent forums for each team. |

My opinion: Go with the two accounts. On my site, I've got an account called "SiteAdmin" which is the Forum Administrator. My normal account is also an Admin, but it keeps the high-level stuff in the separate account.
In your case, I would create a SiteAdmin account and reduce yourself to Moderator of almost every forum with the exception of those which you should not be in (ie: the teams). This will allow you to do most of what you would need to do on a regular basis but for administrative tasks, you can use the SiteAdmin account when required. |

Thank you everyone!! But I will not rest until I do that, I'm thinking of having a variable (true or False) hardcoded in the config.asp to turn the option On and Off, I will have to put my hands to work , and try to find a solution.
I will post my findings here |

I suppose that you could edit forum.asp a little to compare the forum ID against those you don't want access. If it matches one, then do a check for your member ID number and if so, have a redirect to the default page. |

dude... your wasting your time :) You've got access to everything even if you restrict yourself completely, you still have but to upload fresh forum code to the server in a new directory pointing to the same directory... and vuala... your in.
The ONLY thing you can do if your server is it, and your the admin period is this...
Get in a chat with all the leaders of all the teams and have a talk, let them know you can't not have access by nature of you being the admin of the server. You can give them a couple options:
1. Take an oath that you will not use any info you learn as an admin in the line of gameplay. 2. They can get a forum on another server. 3. (this one is up to you and your trust level of the other leaders) make them all admins of your forums. (highly oppose this one at all cost, in fact, I wouldn't even make it an option, and if someone else suggests it, say no :)) |

Have someone that doesn't play host a version of the forums for you and your other teams so that the Admin is not you on those forums and you and other team leaders can vote on what you want. You've heard the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too"? This applys to Admining and participating. |

but Diogo, you could still cheat. You could simply download the DB and look at what is going on without anyone knowing I wouldnt trust ya
But what calendar mod did you use??? I am looking to set one up for myself, and that one looks good. |
