Just installed SQL 2000 (eval) only to find that the new version of Enterprise Manager is slower than the old v7 EM?? Can I change some settings to speed things up a little? |

I believe that there was a service pack or patch for SQL Server 2000 that fixed this problem. |

Ah, I tried to install Service Pack 2 but it choked because is it was only an eval version of SQL 2000. I'll try to look for an individual patch, thanks. |

I don't believe any of the available SP's or patches will let themselves be installed on an Eval version Im afraid. |

I know that it is technically possible to upgrade the server on Evaluation version, but I'm not sure whether the teechnique is leagel. There is no individual patch. If you would like more information, email me at davidk@dudy.mine.nu |

Here's how I managed it:
Install SQL server 2K eval(but only client tools option) Install SQL server 2K Service Pack 2.
It seems that Service Pack 2 only chokes if you install the actual server components.
Hopefully, EM is faster now... |

It's not faster, it's unchanged, the change is in the server itself! |

I didn't realise you were talking about a remote server else I'd have said that its not an EM problem its actually a server issue which is what the SP2 corrects (well partially anyway, it still happens on some screens in EM with a remote server with a large number of users).
The more users and various permissions set on the DB Server the worse the problem gets, tell your host to get rid of half the databases (except yours) that ought to speed it up a bit. |

It's not a remote server, it's a local one [qoute]Just installed SQL 2000 (eval)[/quote] And I already said it's a server and not a EM problem! I installed SP2 on my server and everything works much better, but it's very hard(and COULD be illeagal) to install on the evaluation version of the SQL server! If you want more info, email me, or post here. |

Sorry everyone, I should have included more info. All I need on my local system are the client tools. I then use these to connect to my clients databases wherever they may be hosted remotely. Actually, after the SP2 update, it seems a lot better. |

I thought it was Remote :), my understanding is that patch mainly changes some server behavours, there must be something in EM it patches as well then if you are seeing performance increases :) .. main thing is its better I guess. |
