A nice mod would be to e-mail all users(mod exists already)and those that comeback invalid the admin has the option via a checkbox to delete their account.
What do you guys think? |

the server cannot recive the error messages and analyze them, diffrent servers give diffrent error messages |

also, you may not want to delete 'undeliverable' accounts just because their mailboxes are full or their web sever is down (or some because of some other network reason).

That is why the admin would have the option via a check box. And you could validate it like the membership e-mail verification. |

You can just use the e-mail all users mod as you suggested. Then, the rejected e-mails are sent back to the e-mail address specified for the admin in admin options. go through those and the ones that are returned because of no account or account cancled, manually delete those users. I dodn't see a way where this could be automated by the forums, as the e-mails will not return to the forums, but to the e-mail address you specify for the forum admin. |

is it possible to return it to a specific email address or url which then trigger an automated maintenance action? |

In the new version all new registrants are sent an email with a registraion key. If the email is invalid they will not be able to activate their account and will stay in as Pending member. If they do not activate within a specified period you can delete them by logging in to admin options. |

Gaurav that is correct but we were using snitz prior to the last few releases so that wasnt a feature then.
I have several (30) memebers with invalid e-mails. It takes quite abit of time to open each returned e-mail and delete their acount |

Don't feel bad about 30. I just bulk-mailed 4500 members and had over 800 bounce-backs.... I've just started cleaning them up.
Email validation will help some in the future, but for now I have a mess.... |

E-mail validation is not a cure all though as users can close their e-mail account, move to another provider, etc. you might want to take a look at the Inactive Users mod at http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34565
While it won't prevent false e-mails (nothing really will), it will help in thining out your member list of users that no longer visit. |

I agree James. I don't have that specific inactive users mod, but something similar. I can bulk mail those who haven't posted in either 6 months or a year, or those who've never posted. The problem is all these mods came available recently and I have a lot of OLD membership records to clean up. It sounds like it's going to be a big, manual job... |

I don't actively support this MOD since it isn't mine, but if you are using Snitz v3.3.xx, then I have the Inactive Members Maintenance Version .0001 listed here http://www.rjsonline.net/~cricket/snitz/snitz_mods.htm
I can't remember if I tweaked it to fit my own needs, knowing me I did. So, what you see in my screen shot of my forums may not be the result you get if you install it on your forum. You'll just have to play with it.
Take care,
Etymon

Etymon,
I looked at that link, and can't tell much since the tables aren't populated... thanks!

I don't understand what you mean. Can you not click on the icons to the right to get the download, the readme.txt file, the screenshot, and the Snitz discussion?
Let me know so I can fix it. Thanks.

Etymon,
Sorry about that -- I'm a little slow. That looks like a great mod. I wonder if anyone has tried to update it to v3.4...
