Just got a 3 button mouse and was wondering what does the 3rd button used for? Doesn't seem to do anything. I don't see anything in the mouse settings that says anything about turning it On (if it is Off).
And if it doesn't do anything or isn't really used, why would the manufacturer put a 3rd button on the mouse? |

Mine is setup to scroll pages, but I rarely use it . You must click on a 'normal' part of the page and you get a double-headed up/down arrow - I would have thought the button is customisable if you have the proper driver. |

Simple--to sell more mice. Or mouses. Or whatever you call it. Jury's still out on the plural of mouse, I believe. |

Well I find it silly that they ship 3 button mice with a driver that disables the 3rd button. Why not give consumers the option of enabling or disabling the button? Even if the default is to use the 2 mouse buttons.
I will contact the support guys that made the mouse and see what they say. |

The plural of mouse is mice. But let's not stray from the original topic.
Looking at my mouse properties from the Deveice Manager, I see the drivers do not come from the manufacturer. They are standard microsoft mouse drivers in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder:
VMM32.VXD (vmouse.vxd) MSMOUSE.VXD MOUSE.DRV
So where would I get a driver that supports a 3 button mouse since the manufacturer doesn't supply one?

My 3rd buttons mapped to Double Left Click, 4 button is backwards in my browser
Instead of the manufacturers drivers try just the default MS ones, sometimes theyre actually better just look for one that mentions 3 buttons. |

Not sure what you're saying thier Gremlin. There is no driver that comes with the mouse. You just plug it in and turn on your computer. That's it.
Unless you are saying there is a microsoft driver that supports 3 button mice. |

The third button without driver support is useful when you are thinking deep. Just keep clicking on it with a tempo... It will increase concentarion and will not do any harm like the other buttons do . |

Have you looked for a preloaded driver from the manufactuer in Windows ? use the "Have Disk" option
Most of the MS Drivers I've used support 3 buttons ok, for instance I'm using a Logitech mouse and MS Drivers and all buttons work fine (and its a cordless one too so you'd expect to have to use the manufacturers drivers)
What brand is your mouse? |

There were no files loaded for the mouse. I just plugged it in and started the computer. The manufacturer is not listed in the list of manufacturers when I try the Add New Hardware option in the control panel to install the mouse. Using the "Have Disk" option doesn't make sense since I don't have a disk. And I can't search for a driver on the harddrive since none was loaded for the mouse.
From what I see on the box: Manufacturer: Idea Touch (http://www.ideatouch.com) Mouse Name: FinoMouse 2D Mouse Type: PS/2 3-Button Mouse |

From Hardware/Device Manager, go to the mouse, select the Update Driver option, Select the Install from a Specific Location, next screen select the Don't Search I will choose driver to install then next screen make sure you untick show compatible hardware.
That should allow you to select another MS one. |

In XWindows GUI's (*nix mostly) the third button is put to good use. MS Windows is pretty much two-button-centric, although the Control Panel settings for my wireless mouse allows me to configure the action from all 5 buttons to whatever I want.

The reason you don't see Ideatouch as a manufacturer is because they don't really make the mouse. The fino is a Samsung product which has been packaged for Ideatouch. If you visit Ideatouch's website, you'll see they have no support, no drivers, no nothing. |

If the middle button is setup as a normal click, it's quite useful in Minesweeper |

It's called the boss button, press it to minimize all windows so he/she doesn't catch you surfing the internet. |

Carefree, not sure where you get the info that Samsung makes the mouse for them. I see no where on the mouse itself, the box or thier website that Samsung makes the mouse for them.
They also have a support page on thier site that says thier customers can call them or email them for support.
I have emailed them and will wait during the week if they will respond. Since they only work Monday's to Fridays. |
