Is anyone aware of a mod to accept a paid subscription service so part of the forum is open to members and other parts would be locked to paid subscribers only? I envision forums which would have access to data files and analysis...that would be paid subscription based. |

It would be easy to do... I integrated several sites with Paypal, you need to use the IPN feature. Basically if the transaction goes through ok PayPal sends a response to a specific page on your website that processes the transaction. You could make it update your DB for forum access.

I am pretty good at working through the issues but I don't know all the software code that well yet. Do you have some advice on which files I will need to work with and things to watch out for? I was thinking that adding several more levels in between Admin, Moderator and memeber like Platinum Member, Gold Member and Silver Memeber with different access rights to certain forums would solve most of my issues. Any random ideas are greatly appreciated. |

This has to be relatively easy to do. I have modified some other parts of the code but have not looked into the assignment of levels and their effect on login. How far have you got on this? |

I guess alot of people are thinking about this.
There is a script for $40 that allows subscriptions via paypal. It uses the IPN. Take a look at www.subscriptionkit.com

I think Huw has done something like this for his reddi-web hosting, but I'm not 100% sure. He might be able to give you someplace to start. |

I can share my code for free... what is it exactly you want to do? Do you have XML capability on your web server?

Yes I have IIS 5.0 with .Net Framework and SQL Server MSDE 2000. I develop on this server and will load to a new third party host when the project is ready. I am running the most recent Server Hacker version. We have a discussion thread going regarding adding some new levels to the member system such as Platinum, Silver and Gold. These would be paid memberships with access to certain proprietary forums, data, analysis...Therefore when you sign up or upon upgrade you can pay with paypal to a level of membership you would like to have to get access to this information. I am planning to purchase CandyPress an ASP retail store program and integrate that as well for items for sale. The memberships could even be purchased in the store as long as then they were registered into the Snitz database with the correct member level. |

Thanks for the link I am going to check it out further. In the meantime I purchased Candy Press a retail software package that also has cc and paypal routines. Its all ASP very clean and simple and a header file that can easily be customized to match your forum. For $39 its kind-of-a nobrainer if you need retail. I still have to figure out how to ad levels of memebers for paid services so that they have certain access to forums or items that nonpaying members do not. |

www.oscommerce.com is even cheaper, it is a PHP product though, but I've been using it a while now and like it. |
