Was the new releases forum archived on purpose or by accident?

Also, I notice that none of the 3.4.x release were announced in the mailing lists (or at least they are not in the list archive). Is this also by design?

the items that were in the New Releases Forum, weren't new anymore, so they were archived.

the lack of announcements via the mailing list was an oversite.
