Well said Davio...

quote:

it would be copyrighted under the original copyrighters

...and the copyrighters have the ultimate responsibility to keep it free (i.e. udner GPL)...

they just have more responsibilites

...and more troubles ...

A database based crediting system is just an overkill IMHO, but I don't see anything wrong with saying a nice "thank-you"... I'll do it for the translator/debugger team of v4 anyway... It will not hurt anybody.

Stop the WAR!

They don't have to give me credit for code they got which is covered under the GPL. If they do this, then why don't we ask all users who install our mods to give us credit too?

If your mods included a copyright then when they were incorporated into the main code, they would still need to include that copyright notice. Otherwise it would be a bit like when some people have copied Snitz and removed the copyright notice in the botton right of the webpage which shouldn't be done.

I've contributed code snippets myself (e.g. TopSQL function), rather than whole mods and anyone is free to use them as they wish. The whole Snitz package has a copyright but there are various parts within Snitz that can be used separately without having to include any copyright message, as long as you go and get the original version of the code rather than the Snitz implementation of it.
