Hello all,
I've recently been upgraded to Win2000 and due to circumstances out of my control, I do not have the IIS package installed. I am a former user of PWS.
Is anyone aware of server software that runs under Window 2000 and supports ASP, vbScript and supports MS Access database connections?
Any help is appreciated. |
As ever, -doug |

You should install IIS. It's on the W2K CD for W2K Pro.

what is a stripped down version of IIS? PWS? I don't think he wants that, he stated he was a former user of PWS....
anyway, IIS is not installed by default but can be added during the install or if you go to Add/Remove Programs and select Windows Components. You will need your 2K cd handy. |

I think Jeep was referring to the W2K Pro IIS having some limitations compared to the W2K Server IIS, such as a 10 connection hardwired limit, only supports 1 website on the computer, and a couple other differences from the Server version. Stripped down seems an appropriate description to me :)
You can't (or at least you really shouldn't) install PWS on W2K.

Agreed that it should be on the CD already; I should think Microsoft would frown upon any meddling with their licensed product. However - I have seen some strange thngs done in a managed-pc environment.
I suggest that if IIS is not available on the CD, then go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and get the latest stuff. SP3 should fix you right up if the components are missing. I highly suggest installing all critical updates. After that - there are many articles and newsgroups to get you up and running.
From the KB article Q301305; http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q301305
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Configure Windows, and then click Components.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to install, remove, or add components to IIS.
Lastly, if you are in a managed-pc environment, all will be futile as your pc will get reset by the admin gods. Cheers & best o' luck |
