I need to read up on MySQL, but when looking at PHPBB's database design, I see that they store the post's text in a seperate table. Could this be because MySQL does not use this pointer and just stores the text directly in the table? I'm not sure. That can be the only reason I can think of, because I can't see why they join the two tables to get the text if they didn't really need to.
