Recently, a member signed up for my forums. For some reason, he was listed twice in the member list. He seems to have 2 id #'s. Same exact username, same profiles, same e-mail, etc. Post count increases properly on both at the same time as well. I'm afraid to delete one as I don't want to create a "real" problem. Anyone experience this before?

Are you sure you have two different records? Have you looked in the database?

Yes, I have. The two rows he takes up are identical. Normal username too, no funky characters or spaces, it's the first thing I checked. The last visited and post times are identical which let me know they're acting as 1 account. Very weird.

is this in version 3.4? I've seen a similar issue in 3.1 where someone could register a name like:

The Man

and then someone else could register a name (with extra space)

The Man

The result was the extra space was removed, the account was created and the database showed 2 The Man's with different id numbers though.

I haven't checked 3.4 but under previous versions it was also possible for the Admin to rename an account to the same as an existing one, it never checked to see if the new username was unique.

Some answers:
I am using 3.4 (Access).
The number id's are consecutive.

dayve - there are no spaces in the user's name. All fields are identical in the db.

I'm the only admin (there's one other, but he doesn't get involved in these things - plus I called and asked him ), so I know there was no tinkering.

There don't seem to be any errors - yet.

yeah I already checked 3.4 and I couldn't duplicate what I have seen in the past on 3.1. However for clarification, I just wanted to let you know that in 3.1 even if you looked at the database, you would not see a double space between the names, they truly were identical but it doesn't matter now because this bug is not apparent in 3.4

I'd say backup the DB, delete one of the records and see how it goes.
