Hi'
I've set up the latest edition of the Snitz Forum. And works perfectly! Except for the missing email notification. Isn't it possible to have the system notify forum-members when a new topic is posted automatically? Or eg. 10 new topics have been posted?

Best regards
Claus

It's called subscriptions. You must enable it in the admin section, then edit each and every category and forum that you want notification to be included on. Once that is done, then the users will have the option of subscribing to topics/forums/categories/boards as you define it.

Not a problem. A lot of people have problems with this feature for some reason...

Sorry - but it doesn't seem to work. The different categories have now been marked with the subscription mark "allow subscriptions to category". But whether I log on in my own name or a bogus-name and post a new topic in the category it doesn't result in an e-mail with the notification. Do you have another clue....

Best regards - Claus

Were the forums set to allow subscriptions? Did you actually subscribe to the categories? Are other emails working (like the "forget your password" or "mail topic to friend"?)

Thanks for your prompt reply! Yes all groups and categories are set so that they allow subscriptions. And yes I have actually subscribed to alle categories in the site...

If you're online (?) could I persuade you to log on as an administrator and take a look?

Thanks in advance

It seems that I've solved my problem. So thanks for your help...

But I've found a MOD that I'm planning on installing in my site - so who knows - maybe I'll contact you for further assistance...

Best regards

If you don't mind me asking, what was your problem and how did you fix it? Just wondering in case there might be someone with the same type of problem...

Sure: I was just plain stupid... I've opened different forum for subscription. But not the actual categori.

By the way: Do you have any experience with setting up active user MOD? I have it working on my site: Only, I can't access the config module? I get this error-message:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

/admin_config_activeusers.asp, line 38

The include file 'Active%20Users%204.0/34/config.asp' was not found.

It seems that the admin_config_activeusers.asp won't see the config.asp in the root directory...What could be wrong. Nevertheless: The Mod seems to be working....
Best regards

I have the same problem. I have set up the forums for subscription, and I have subscribed to the forum. Send topic to a friend works fine, but Forgot password don't work.

And I do not get any e-mail notifications.

Any sugestions whats wrong?

Peter!

Saying something does not work does not help us fix it. We simply cannot guess what is going on with your forum. Please provide a detailed description of what happens when you try to use the forgot password link.

Regarding subscriptions follow Davemaxwell's instructions in the second post in this thread. Also email is never sent to the author of a post, so if you have subscribed to a topic and you post at that topic, you won't received a new post notification.

Sorry about my novis input.
After some futher investigation I found this.

When clicking forgot password I get the screen where I enter the username and e-mail address and hit submit. Then I get back to the login screen. But I never receive any mail if the user is not in my domain.

And when I register a user that is not in my domain they never get any mail. If they are in my domain it works.

Send topic to Friend works to any domains.

It is my own server.
On this Windows 2000 SP3 server I have IIS running for some domains where tyfri.org (the one I run the forum for) is one of them. I also run Imail 7.04 from Ipswitch and Serv-U FTP 3.0 from Rhinosoft. The IIS SMPT server is configured on port 2525 cause the Imail server is running on port 25. In the IIS SMTP Virtual server I have the tyfri.org as an alias domain (do not realy understand this)

In the Forum I have three options for Select E-mail component. CDOSYS (IIS 5/5.5/6), CDONTS (IIS 3/4/5) and Chili!Mail (Chili!Soft ASP) and I use CDOSYS (did try Chili!Mail first, but did not get anything to work)

Anything else I could tell you that you need to know?

///Peter!

Frankly, configuring email servers is not something I'm an expert on. I've managed to configure my own, but that was it, never did it again.

I suggest that you start a new thread at the proper forum: Help: Email Configuration. There your chances that you get expert help will increase. This clearly seems a config issue and I'm not at ease with this to be able to help someone, sorry.

Please describe your situation in the new topic. You can copy and paste from here. I won't move the topic there because this topic issue is not related specifically with email configuration(that's why I also advise people to start a new thread whenever they have a new problem). After you start the new topic I will lock this one.

Thanks I have been reposting the message in the E-mail configuration forum.
