Hi.

Is there a chat program that will be linked to the user forum data file? so when they click on the CHAT option, it logs people on using their handle?

I found several other chat programs but none log the member in with their valid member names.

Otherwise, people can run amock using each others handles.

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Hopefully I can provide some information for you. There were two MODs but Dream Chat seems to have gone into the unknown. There is Snitzy_Chat that TMPJ has updated to work with Snitz v3.4.0x. He is helping me to find a problem that I am having it installed. From what I have seen so far it looks great. I hope that he can find the problem soon. And, yes, it does automatically pass the person's ID on to chat so their Snitz ID is their chat ID. One of the things that I like about it is that there is not a lot of alteration to the standard Snitz. I made a couple of changes that made it even less and gives me more control over when the chat sessions can be used.

Check out this topic

http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34275

and you will find discussion about it and a link to download the file.

Hope that helps.

Mike

There was a problem with getting the download to work but he was supposed to have fixed that. Go down in that topic as far as possible to find the latest link. Read the messages and find where he said he fixed the link.

If that doesn't work send him an e-mail asking him about it.

Snitz Chat

This one has everything in one directory (renamed to SnitzChat) but the asp files are looking for files in chat and sub-dirs to chat. Example: chat.css in the ZIP file is in the chat dir but admin.asp is looking for it in

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/chat.css">

I remember there are other sub-dirs.

Also, this shows global.asa being under /forum/chat. Doesn't the global.asa file have to be under the root, /? Not sure, so I am asking to make sure I put it in the proper place.

I was having trouble with a previous version but I am totally confused with this version. Please advise what has happened, which is the correct version, where should global.asa be, and how is this really set up.

Thanks.

Mike - I've had others download my update to Snitz Chat and get it working. See the post in my forum for additional details. If you follow the instructions and it still doesn't work on your system, it must have something to do with the control page you've implemented.

I just registered. I'll finish it when I get home tonight and open up my mail.

Thanks.

My 2-cents, The install for the Snitz Chat is not consistent
as far the mods to the inc_header file in the main snitz dir
as well as various places to put the global.asa - a mystery, i've played with it for about 6 hours over the last two weeks with not very pretty results... hanging id's that say they are logged in and they are not. I've tried these attempts on Snitz v3.4.0x using iis4 on nt server. I've just finished building a win2k server box with iis5 and i'll make another go at it from there. Maybe the variations are from like sql users and access , i'm not sure. I'd love to see
a downloadable zip that includes the stock snitz directory files needed to be modified, instead on the snippets that should work but have varying differences depending on the user.

Thanks for your time!

Carefree spent a lot of time helping me and finally it got worked out. No doubt, the global.asa is a pain. We finally decided to put them in every subdirectory. Then it worked. There is a methodology to global.asa but I could not get it to work. Putting it everywhere was quicker, especially for such a small file.

My host is running w2k with iis5 and it works. However, I would think that it would work on NT4 also.

The last one that I got from Carefree worked. There is a URL for it somewhere in the forum that he provided for someone else. Carefree is using another Char program at this time. (Can't remember the name right now.) Do a search to find it.

If you would - could you zip up your entire snitz dir including chat minus your database of course, I'll add my database and run it and see if it works and from there i can find out what my problem is. If you can do this it would be great. I could then in turn help others with similar problems, i'm starting to look at the code closer but a working version would save me time .

remember not to send your database

Thanks for your time!
