Hi Guys,

I seem to have this intermittant problem with the MEMBERS PENDING option in the Admin options. It would appear that some users need Authorising while others do not.

I first noticed this in 3.4.01 and now I have upgraded to 3.4.02 using Access 2k DB.
The email component is working find just this anomoly.

To give you an example at this URL:
http://www.buffy.com.au/forum/members.asp?UserName=&FirstName=0&LastName=0&INITIAL=&link=sort&mode=search&M_NAME=&method=datedesc

Sorting by the most recently joined members, member Nadams I did not have to authenticate, whereas member AussieSlayer I did.

Im just not sure where the problem may lie, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Regards,
Libosis

do you just have e-mail validation turned on? If so, the user can authorize themselves (and actually that's the way it should be, if you authorize them, then you don't know if the e-mail address is good).

Or, do you have restrict registration turned on as well?

I have this :

Require Unique E-mail: On:
E-mail Validation: On:
Restrict Registration: Off:
Require Logon for sending Mail: On:

Does this mean that all of those that Im validating in fact aren't able to validate themselves cause they're putting in dodgy email addresses or they haven't activated it themselves ...?

So this would be my bad then ... and I don't have to check the members pending to validate accounts ...?

that is correct. For you to have to authorize them, you need to turn on Restrict Registration.

In which case I wouldn't know who had a valid email address and who didn't ... yes ?

No, once you authorize them, then they are sent an e-mail with the validation link in it. If the e-mail address isn't valid, they will never get the e-mail.

coolies ... I might do that then ... makes it easier to distinguish because you just authorise everyone then and have none pending ....

Thank you Richard

Richard, when I do what you say - ie restrict registration and then approve a user who signs up they do not appear to get the email ? infact they get nothing ?

I tried this myself to verify, perhaps I have something wrong,

- restrict access.
- unique email yes.
- require email validation - yes.

Everythingict, please keep your posts about the same problem to a single thread! Things are already confusing as it is!

Ok, From What I've Read RichardKinser Said:

that is correct. For you to have to authorize them, you need to turn on Restrict Registration.

My Question is:
If My E-mail Settings are Set like in the Above Quote, This Means all Members on the "Members Pending" Page have Either Given the Wrong E-mail Address or They have Not Clicked on the Link in the Email Validation they Received. Is this Correct?

LOL, Sorry it's Real Confusing Reading this & Trying to Understand it, the Right Way?

Thank You for Your Time & Baring with Me on this!!!!!

Yes that is correct. I'm admiting that your forum is sending out emails, of course.
