Hi, I don't know if anyone has mention this while running the v4 of the forum. My forum is running on utf-8 and email verification add-ons. Its not really a problem, but more like an inconvenience for the members. My forum run in 3 languages, English, Traditional & Simplified chinese adn evrything is runnig perfectly well (of cours ei did made some changes). However, the problem arise with the email being sent out during registration. Its in utf-8, unicode. Its nto a problem if they're using a web-based email. However, if their email client doesn't not support unicode(utf-8), they will see weird characters. Of course its not a problem they register in english.
Like i said, its not a problem, just an inconvenience. I was wondering if anyone else has face the same situation that i'm in. if so, how do u get away with it? Of course i could just force them to register in english.
Any reply or suggestions would really be helpful.
Regards.
PS: U can find the forum at www.iamei.com . Its an official fan club for a taiwanese singer. Its not officially launched yet though.

Well, I know that it is a problem, not only with utf-8, but all languages except English. In v4b03.x, there was no encoding related to e-mail components. In v4b04 we will try to use a "preferred language" field for the user and will add component specific code to use encoding (not all of them support all languages thou).
But, if the e-mail client does not support these encodings, it will continue to be problematic. That is, if a Chinese does not use an e-mail program that understand Chinese... But this is a problem everwhere... < |

i think i'm going inform the new members to register in english, unless they haf a web-based email account. If they can view the website, their web-based email shouldn't be a problem rite?
Btw, is there a way to send the email in codepage instead of unicode, even if the website it self is in unicode? If this possible, i can force it to send email in Big5, instead of unicode.
regards...< |

There should be a way to send your emails with a different encoding. I had the same problem with a multi-language website using English and Japanese. I'm not sure how to do this though. One of the email people at my company headquarters helped me out with this.
The problem my also be related to your mailer software. My company uses ASPmail and it has problems sending Japanese in the Subject field, but works fine with Japanese in body of messages. I have no idea why.
