Anyone thought of writing a MOD that will allow topics to appear as sticky topics in active.asp?

I think it would be cool, as you're creating a sticky topic, to be able to decide whether or not it shows up in the main forum views, in active topics, or in both.

Sticky topics for the main forum views are great for newbies, and people who are somewhat new to the forums. After a while, I've found that a large majority of people live in active topics (myself included). If this is the case, many "announcements" might get passed over, even though they should have caught the message at least once based on the way active topics works. Sometimes they'll still get passed over. Which is why it would be nice to be able to force those to the top on occasion as needed.

I can't think of a reason why you would want a topic to be stick ONLY in active.asp...but, I figure if the option's going to be built, might as well build it!

Just thoughts...am I the only one that would be interested in this?

the problem, and the reason we didn't include sticky topics on active.asp, is that if you have a lot of sticky topics, active.asp becomes cluttered and less useful. and, in most cases, topics that are made "sticky" are not very active.

Yeah, I figured that was the reasoning behind it...and I *totally* understand it. That's why I thought it would be nice to have it so when making a topic sticky, you could choose whether or not it showed up in active.asp. I figure that way you can put all the "forum rules", and other nearly-permanent sticky topics in the main views...but if you have urgent announcements that you want folks to see for a week or so - those could be targeted at active.asp as well.

Might be something I play with down the road...just bouncing the idea off folks though. Without looking at the code (which I really haven't done yet) it almost sounds like another DB column and another checkbox for inputs...plus whatever view changes to active.asp.

Umm. How about having sticky topics that changed atleast show as sticky in the active topics? I mean they expire like everything else and dont show up the next time but when they do show up it would be real nice if they showed their sticky ness. Same thing with locked topics as well. :)
