Hi,

I've searched for the past 2 days for this problem without finding an answer, so hopefully I'm not reposting something...

Anyway, I have NT-Authentication / Use Autologon turned on. Plus my webserver has Anonymous Access Unchecked / Integrated Windows Authentication Checked. However, I keep getting prompted to enter my network password (username/password/domain) each time i go to the forum. After I enter my info, everything works great. I don't know if this is my forum not configured right, or the webserver is outta whack.

Also, the little help icons in Feature NT Authentication bring up blank windows.

Any help much appreciated, thank ya!

When you say that you have to enter your credentials each time you go to the forum, are you using the same browser window, or have you closed the browser window and started over again? Also, are you logged on to the domain on your machine while you try to access your forum? Finally, do you have to go through a proxy server before you reach the web server?

Did you do a view source on the blank windows you are getting?

Thanks for the reply, here's more details i probably should have put the first time.

1. Newest forum. 3.4.01
2. It is each new browser session I need to logon. If I leave it up, I can browse the forum like all get out.
3. Yes, I am logged into the domain. I've tried normal user and admin accounts. I've even tried machines not on the domain for kicks.
4. Nope, there is no proxy server, however, I am using host headers. (I have tried it without headers with the same results.)
5. No proxy servers. and all my server stuff is housed on 1 machine. (domain controller / iis)

Also, when i view the source, all i see is normal empty structure of a webpage. (header info, style info, small table structure with fonts and stuff, but no information like "here's what this will do for you" or anything. Here's the link on the (?) Help Button : javascript:openWindow3('pop_config_help.asp')

I notice most other links look like this:
javascript:openWindow3('pop_config_help.asp?mode=system#RequireReg')

Thanks

For kicks, what happens if you set the authentication to Basic rather than Windows Integrated? Also, are you using SSL?

I would think with Windows Integrated that it would pull your logon credentials from the machine you are logged onto (assuming you are logged onto the same domain). What's your workstation OS?

This is what happened with Basic Auth on and Integrated off:

Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A01B6)
Object doesn't support this property or method: 'strNTUserInfo.FullName'
/inc_func_common.asp, line 825

I'm not using SSL to the best of my knowledge. I didn't choose any options for it.

NT authentication is working apparently, but auto-logon isn't. Once i enter my user/pass/domain. It has my name & all posted on the forum.

One thing I did notice. If i do http://server. I get in just fine. but if i do http://server.domain.com, i get the prompt for the network id. ALso, if i use the host head of http://forum.domain.com i get the prompt for logon.

Unfortunatly. I'm looking to do the http://forum.domain.com...if i can figure out what i messed up

Gosh, I'm not sure what's going on there. I haven't used NT auth for snitz myself before, but have used it in other apps. Is it a problem to authenticate when you enter the forum for the first time? Really, that is better (more secure), in case you leave your computer unattended and some else sits down and pretends to be you.

I've use Integrated security also. Seems to work fine on other sites on the server.

Nah, this isn't any sort of major deal. Just one of those things that isn't working and I was curious what was up. If anyone has any ideas I'll still be interested in hearin' them. If I ever figure it out I'll make sure to post for others.

you say you have No proxy servers? Does this mean you have no proxy settings? In options , under lan settings you have nothing for proxy server set?

Is this a 2000 client?

If you are on the server and logged into doamin can you bring up the forums from "http://server.domain.com"

Hows the Clients Ip settings? default? or do you have custom DNS and wins settings?

No, no proxy server or proxy settings.

Windows 2000 client machines / Windows 2K Server for server.

DHCP enabled on all clients. The DHCP scope does tell the client where the DNS/WINS server is at (same computer as the domain controller / iis server).

While on the server, "http://server.domain.com" will bring up the forum, but I still have to enter user/pass/domain info.

yet "http://server" works ok

I need to test that out in my site. I have what you have.

But i cant do it until tomorrow as it s 11:52 Pm for me

I will try to status you ASAP!

Just a FYI

I did see this on some clients when... network issues, proxy setting wrong, users out side of domain, and i think one other time.

Thanks for the help. The more I look at this, I know I have something configured wrong. But I can't figure out what. I appreciate the help. No hurry on it either btw... It's not a pressing issue for my small office workplace.

I'm gonna go look at some MS KB articles on IIS / Integrated Security.

'nite

Here's some info i found, and i tried it and it works.

http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=12009443&m=3870986783&r=2260907783#2260907783

Basically, it says that anytime IE sees a '.' in a url, it says that that it's INTERNET. And Integrated will only work for INTRANET.

If i add http://forum.domain.com to my intranet zone, it works.

Go figure. It's fairly simple for me to do that to all my machines, but I wonder if people with much larger networks have a work-a-round.
