You need to turn on subscriptions. This way, all users can be notified when someone posts to a topic.
To turn on subscriptions, setup your mail server in the admin options, turn on the email mode and choose the level of subscriptions you want to use in the "Feature Configuration" After that, you need to edit every single category und forum you want to use subscriptions with. After that, users are able to subscribe. |

Sorry i am struggling here;
I only want a moderator to be informed when sombody has posted in a forum where he is repsonsible to moderate. Is this possible
'To turn on subscriptions, setup your mail server in the admin options' I have gone to the admin options but i cannot find 'turn on subscriptions' or 'set up mail server'` Where will i find 'Feature configuration'?
Sorry to be so blonde, but all this is black magic to me.

I think it should work, here is what you should do:
1.) Go to the Admin Options, logged in as an Admin 2.) Go to the "E-Mail Server Configuration" 3.) Check that "E-Mal Mode" is set to ON 4.) Go back to the Admin Section and then to "Feature Configuration" 5.) Check the Setting for "Highest Level of Subscription" -> this let's you choose if users can "subscribe" to a topic, the whole forum, the whole category or the whole bord. Set it to at least "Forum" 6.) Go to the overview of all Forums 7.) Find the category where you want to enable the subscription and click on "Edit Category Name" 8.) Set the Subscription Level for the Category to at least "Forum" 9.) Go back to the overview of all Forums 10.) Find the Forum you want to enable the subscription in the Category you just changed and click on "Edit Forum Properties" 11.) Set the subscription level for the Forum to "Forum" 12.) Repeat Steps 6 to 11 untill all Forums are set
13.) Now the Moderators can subscribe to the Forum (new icon should appear) and should get an e-mail (Note: I didn't test this, so pardon if it's wrong)
Sidenote: You can't set it that only Moderators are informed. The users that have rights can use the subscription then as well. Remember that the subscription works kinda "top-down". First you open it in the Feature Configuration for the whole board, then activate it in the category, then on the forum.
Hope it helps
